Just a place to comment on, you know, religion. I'll start:

Probably not as many as they ought. Let's put it this way: they're not tax-exempt.

I don't have the same grudge against religion that I used to. Here's how I think about it now. It's a coping mechanism. Most people are indoctrinated into their respective religions when? Around 8-11 years old or so. That also happens to be the time when most thinking people first really grok the inevitability of their own demise. We tend to idyllize* childhood, but I remember laying awake thinking deep dark shit about just - existence. Yeah. At that young. So, you know, they give you this whole theology to believe in right when you're first getting that acrid taste of mortality for the first time. For most, it's something to believe in and I think they just leave it at that. And a lot of the concepts are solid advice to live by. You know, "Do unto others (etc)" If there's anything that still annoys me, it's that people take for granted that religion is why we all don't go full nihilistic on each other. We're bright enough to figure out that we all need to find a way to live together. It's probably coded in the genes. So, I think it's a bit ingenuous for religion to take credit for some of that common sense stuff. I guess that's all I have to say about it tonight.
*Fuck you. It's a word now.

And this is what they indoctrinate you with, Kobbers: Oh hey, I remember that from every church sponsored school or event I ever attended. The idea is to trick you into agreeing with 'em and then hope you'll be too scared ever to start thinking for yourself later...Fool me once...

I'm the opposite, Kobbers. I used to spend equal time defending faith to Atheists and Atheism to the faithful, being neither, but it has become increasingly difficult to defend religion. It would be one thing if everyone engaged with it philosophically, which is exactly what should be happening, since that's what it actually is, but far too many people refuse to see it that way. You ask many of the fundies if their religion is personal to them, and they'll rapturously gush about how personal it is to them, but they're voting with their Bibles as well, and that's not personal. That's...what do they call it?...oh, right, POLITICAL.
And, of course, the irony is that the only way to have genuine religious freedom is with a secular society.

I watched this after my paragraph on religion, and it's amazing how close our thoughts align on the subject.

And this is what they indoctrinate you with, Kobbers: Goldie, I have been reluctant to post to this thread, being a firm believer in the old cliche saying, about not discussing Politics or Religion. But, that book cover has really gotten my curiosity up. I had never heard of that book before. What is it about, and what does it have to say? Probably better for me to do a net search on it, rather than bother you with questions.

I agree. It's a book that probably should exist, but doesn't.
Here's another example of the fine genre of nonexistent children's books:

"Christian puppets" is a fairly redundant redundancy that's repetitive and says the same thing over and over again.

I fail to understand why these people don't understand how...menstrual this metaphor is.
And when you tie in the idea of "drink my blood in remembrance of me" with the idea of being "covered in blood," the whole Last Supper thing goes all
