Could use some serious film detective help finding an old horror short from possibly as far back as the 1980's. It was called "The Bells of Waiting" and featured only two actors, both African-American. It might have been less than five minutes long. The gist was, the female had been asked to come over by a guy she had broken up with. While there, he repeatedly begs her to stay, while she insists she needs to leave. If I recall, he takes something of hers, and locks himself in the bathroom (or at least shuts the door on her). When she does get the door open, he's there in the bathtub, dead by suicide for an obviously long time. While it might sound contrived now, it knocked me off the chair the first time I saw it. I think it played as a short on the Arts & Entertainment Channel.
Anyway, I only saw it once, and forgot about it for years, until it bubbled to the surface one day and I found a grainy VHS copy of it some glorious individual had uploaded to YouTube. I was basically satisfied seeing it again, and kind of assumed it would be there when I wished to see it again. Checked tonight, and can't find that fucker in the search pages now. I'd make sure I saved it off this time, if someone can locate that g'dang thing for me somewhere on YouTube. Maybe I'm searching wrong. I'm fairly certain that I have the title correct.

Dr. Kobb, I just checked Lost Media Wiki, and so far 11 views and zero replies.
I'll give them a week, then get onto "I Squirted When I Farted."
I think Lost Media Wiki is more oriented toward TV stuff, and I should have thought of the idea myself.
That's why I'm glad we've got Deeky to give me such good ideas.

I will post the first reply to my inquiry on Lost Media Wiki, giving the title of the film, and hopefully that will get some of the people more in the know to get some answers.

Found it!!! I just happened to peek through a box of old, saved-off data discs, and the first one I plucked out of the box had "Bells of Waiting" on it.  |

Print's not as dodgy as I'd remembered, either. Especially considering I took it from YouTube, to my computer, to a data disc, then back to my computer! All hail the digital gods! That many generations down on analog would have come out looking like talking blobs. Still as creepy as I remembered it, too. I love it when I revisit something I've spoken highly of, and find that YES - it does still have merit after all these years.

Deeky, I did a net search on public showers, which Tyler discussed in his shower interview, and came across a forum for "Freeballers," the firstime I had seen that term. I thought, what in the Sam Hill Hell is a Freeballer? I finally found out that it is a person, of either sex, who does not wear underwear. How could I have lived as many decades as I've lived and never before, until the wee hours of this morning, heard the term "freeballer?" Well, you learn something new every day. How many people have had all kinds of life experiences: married, divorced, reproduced themselves, remarried, and again reproduced themselves, made money and lost money, served in the military and had combat experience, served prison sentences, and so many other life experiences, but have never heard of things that other, possibly far less experienced in life, take for granted? Now that I know what a "Freeballer" is, I will not visit any more Freeballer message boards. I suppose that if the Freeballers want to freeball and communicate by internet message boards, that is OK with me. |
