I just learned that Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath fame was once a member of Jethro Tull, way back in 1968.

I just learned about a thing called "No Mow March". My sister explained that people do it for the environment (like letting insects grow and plants bloom). It was gratifying, because that's what I'm already purposefully doing this month. Having been here 7 years, I've been able to of observe the general timing of these things. It'll be even easier to now that I'll be at home much of the time.
Come to think of it, should start seeing those tiny crickets (that grow into the middle-finger length monsters by October) soon.

The Anti-Defamation League just announced that my home state is 4th in the nation for white supremacist propaganda production.

The guy who posted it online didn't provide a link...try the ADL site? I don't really want to find out the answer.
But I did figure out how to turn FLAC files into MP3's, which is huge. Most of the audio files being uploaded to the newsgroups these days are in FLAC. I could listen to them on my desktop, but my CD-R burning program wouldn't recognize FLAC. It'll be a satisfying enough workaround for my primitive ass.

I'm getting a digital streaming box set up for the house. Could just dump everything as a wav or aif file but might have to get to some rooms over wifi. Tricksy...very tricksy the bandwidth is, my Precioussss...

I'm having to transcribe this Billy Anderson style...
In ancient Rome, long before the advent of the Christian Bible, Romans would swear to "tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" by placing their right hand on their testicles. It is from this ritual that we derived the terms "testimony" and "testify".

...assess the truthfulness of the speaker based on where he is grabbing himself? Wait, what about the women?

No use serving as a witness if you have to do to yourself what Godzilla did to Hedorah that time.

Bonus Small Entertainment and Stuff What I Learned features: The Plugz (one of the first bands to incorporate a Chicano element into punk rock) won a Best Song Award at the 1986 AFAA (Adult Film Association Awards) for the following track having been featured in New Wave Hookers, a flick with some degree of scandal attached to it. (As someone who inherited a VHS copy of New Wave Hookers 2 from the store I worked at, I can tell you, they used 'Electrify Me' in that one too.) They also scored Repo Man, too.

An invaluable contribution to that film's success, especially the finale.
