Woo hoo! Tax return in and it looks bigger than what we were figuring. In October? I filed an extension.

See how complicated your life gets when you have money? Oh, speaking of that, I am only a little over $6,000 from having my place paid off.

See how complicated your life gets when you have money? Oh, speaking of that, I am only a little over $6,000 from having my place paid off. Right? I actually lived on less than when I was working (and I wasn't making out like a bandit then) last year. But you're correct. We decided to wait until something had cleared from my late brother's estate before filing this year.
That has got to feel fantastic to nearly have your place paid off! Congratulations! I'm good here, but insurance rates are soaring and after this season will undoubtedly only get worse.

In the small, yet large happinesses department: I mailed out a check for 2 mos' worth of condo dues to Tampa, FL the same day Helene swapped out her Category 2 status for Category 5. The check didn't show up in my account, day after day. Then Milton came. The checking account balance stayed the same. I waited. And waited. I looked on Google to see if I could find the right building and if it was in the crapper. No soap. I called the management company to ask. Nobody returned the call.
Today, the check finally cleared.

First game of the season and the Magic stomped the bejesus out of the (hated) Miami Heat. Play the song!

Nice!
I was checking all month to see if my closest theater would do a special showing of "Trick-r-Treat" (2008) like previous years. Alas, no.

I got a notice on my phone today that early voting had started here, and in impulse, I decided to go. After hearing at Threads and X how insanely long the lines are, it seemed worth checking out. In the event there were only 4 other voters present, which in fairness IS an insanely long line for this town. I'm often the only one there. Well, my election volunteer was lightly brain damaged. I watched her type in my name "McHery," stare at the screen a long time, catch her mistake, retype it, stare even longer at the screen and then tell me I couldn't vote at this venue; I had to go to the town hall. "Isn't that where I am?" I asked, knowing quite well where I was -- I've voted here many times. "Um," she said. Someone else came over and informed her she'd typed in "McHerny," a violation of my name I've never encountered before anywhere. The second woman leaned over and typed it in correctly and the desk girl brightened, saying "My bad. I was wrong. You can vote." The happiness part was that the woman behind me in line came in and announced she'd never voted before in her life. We all beamed at her and welcomed her in. It turned out she actually did come to vote at the wrong place -- she's from the northernmost edge of the county and drove all the way to the southernmost edge, to the wrong town, to get there -- and I'm quite worried that they sent her on some sort of wild goose chase to cast her ballot. The other happiness was the choice of "I VOTED" stickers. I took the piscatorial one of course.
