Short Circuit a military robot becomes self aware, hijinks ensue. Have you ever seen "Deadly Friend" (1986)? Dumb android fun from the same era. I don't think so. I'll try to check it out.

To be fair, I haven't seen that one since it was out in the theaters. Details may have slipped my mind...

Finally got around to "Nightmare Before Christmas" last Friday. Quite the visual treat and it was fun to watch Jack and the Halloween Town crowd bung up the whole Christmas concept. It's kind of surprising to me that some big toy manufacturer hasn't capitalized on the idea of morbid twists on traditional toys for Christmas. I'm sure there's plenty of smaller scale such things on Etsy and elsewhere... Anyway, I can finally cross never seeing that one off my True Movie and TV Confessions list.

Just back from a matinee showing of "Thanksgiving" (2023). Was a lot better than expected. Pretty grisly at times, but that's to be expected (it's an Eli Roth joint). I think I've seen most of the admittedly tiny sub-genre of Thanksgiving horrors, and this one is easily the best of the lot.

I will say that, with a couple of hours to let it marinate in my brain, the eventual culprit is kind of implausible. As in, it would be really difficult for this character to make themselves scarce for any length of time to perform this intricate plan. Plus (as with most slasher flicks) there are scenarios that are incredibly providential and serendipitous for the killer. Still, as someone who worked retail for decades, it was an overall joy to watch.

I worked food retail for decades, and Thanksgiving is like the apocalypse in a mismanaged store. Fortunately, retail does evolve, and it got progressively less awful as the years went by. Still, that's why I started watching holiday horrors to begin with. It's immensely satisfying to someone seeing the worst of people for several months straight to watch Santa slaughtering some assholes if you're on the wrong end of the holiday as I was.

It's not just Walmart, though. Thanksgiving in grocery retail is pretty hellish.

My Orlando Magic have won nine in a row as of last night! Yeah! Good chance of making that ten with the next game, too.
