Had a blast last night at the Smithee Awards, it was a good un, even if I had heard of a good percentage of the films on display. Were you there Cliffster? If not, you missed that on the snack table were actual small crab bodies to eat apparently. What are the Smithee Awards? Were you nominated for something? Did you win? Who did you wear? |

Sheesh, do keep up Deeks, Fishstix and I have only been talking about the local event for the past 15 years on here. A local group scours b-movies (of any date, it's based on when they find them not when they're made) and throws up clips for categories like "stupidest looking monster" or "overkill" or whatever, and the audience votes on their favorite, and much fun at the films' expense is had. As well as plenty of bad junk food to eat.

I wanna go to the Smithees someday. Did you find out if Goldfish made it or not? I think she was going to just hunker down with that late winter storm hitting the same weekend. Can't say I blame her. Fuck that Ice Road Truckers shit.

I didn't dare go because of the ice storm. Everyone in my county was warned not to leave their homes. I had such a bad feeling that I decided against it.
Were there any good, bad new films that require our immediate attention Ed?

I've been slowly working my way through the Alien Quadrilogy as I my house slowly implodes, collapsing into itself under the sheer dark matter power of my still-to-be-boxed-up possessions.
I'm mostly through it all (the Quadrilogy, not the boxing up), and I don't think I'll find a better comment in the bonus material than one given by one of the special effects dudes from Alien3 and Resurrection, who also donned the rubber suit when a rubber-suited monster was needed.
This guy had to have a full body cast made so they could construct a foam rubber suit that was skin tight and contoured just for his body. After they completed the construction, he tried it on and, as he said, "I looked down and saw the alien had love handles."
"The Alien Had Love Handles" might, just might, be the title of the next erotic sci-fi story I write (if I ever get around to writing again).
Ron Perlman's discussion over whether anybody peed in the underwater set of Resurrection is a close second. The underwater scenes took about a month to film, so you know SOMEbody had to have done it.
