Yep. If I'm remembering correctly (which I may not be) it dates from the middle of the 19th century when Maximilian I (an Austrian) was briefly Emperor of Mexico. The French/Austrian conquest of Mexico also led to several blond, blue-eyed Mexican families--I went to school with a scion from one of 'em--that would no doubt have made DFIT's head explode if he'd bothered to learn of their existence. |
