I would like to make the case that this song by Dutch band Golden Earring is the greatest rock song ever recorded. There are possibly hundreds of better bands with better overall discographies to their credit, but Golden Earring tapped into something universal with this one particular song. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

I found myself softly singing this at work the other day. I think I freaked out a couple of customers.

Was genuinely surprised to hear this one night leading up to Halloween at work:

I have odd blind spots in regard to certain bands that I like. Big Hüsker Dü fan, but I've probably only heard Zen Arcade all the way through, like, twice. Big Minutemen fan, but I've only heard Double Nickels on the Dime all the way through three or four times. And until recently, despite being a big Genesis fan, with a special soft spot for Gabriel-era, I had only heard The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway all the way through once. (Maybe it's some sort of latent problem with double albums.) That has now been remedied, including an effort to grasp the narrative (this was the only actual full-fledged concept album the band did), which is like an acid trip, and I don't say that glibly, it actually reads like something someone on acid would write (and Gabriel was known to take it from time to time). It has also placed this particularly haunting track in heavy rotation in my head.

Ain't nothing wrong with solo Ringo. Actually, the whole album that that song is from is great. (It was also the closest thing we got to a Beatles reunion for a while, with all three of the others writing and playing for it, although usually on different tracks.)
