Kind of reminds me of this classic Bill Hicks routine:

I've been so wrapped up in Halloween nonsense the last few weeks. How are things going in the Middle East (birthplace of three of the world's major religions) these days?

I'm not going to lie, it looks fun. Wish it was something you could just do on weekends or on vacations, though.

This struck me as the sort of unwarranted intellectual masturbation that Internet Atheists habitually engage in, so I looked it up. And I was right. Here's the real situation: The Egyptian Book of the Dead contains a list of 42 affirmations about your conduct during life that you'll be expected to make before various gods during the vetting process for the afterlife. Among the things you should be able to affirm not having done are the slaying of men and women, a whole checklist of dishonest practices that might be collapsed into "lying," a similarly extensive catalogue of nitpicky nuances of theft, and so on. Some of those can be mapped with greater or lesser effort onto the divine commandments in Exodus 20; others map much more cleanly onto one or another of the Roman Catholic Church's Seven Deadly Sins (especially Wrath). A few concern sexual matters that were treated as moral issues all over the Afro-Semitic world, but not necessarily elsewhere ("I have not lain with men," "I have not polluted myself"). A few others bear very particularly on aspects of Egyptian culture or religion ("I have not slain the cattle belonging to the god," "I have not carried away the khenfu cakes from the spirits of the dead"). Only the latter category are sufficiently distinctive that literally any other society within the same very broad cultural sphere couldn't have arrived at them without inspiration from Egypt specifically, and those are the very ones that have absolutely no analogues in the Abrahamic tradition. And the most distinctive elements of Exodus 20-- the ones pertaining to exclusivity of worship and the special covenant between Yahweh and the Israelites-- have no analogues in the Book of the Dead, either.

Apparently word salad was the appetizer at the last supper?
