Thread for remembering stuff --happy or sad. Probably won't go anywhere :)

Remembering two dearly departed critters. Carly, the Goddess Statescat, and Voodochile, the Flying Wolf. Queen of all she surveys --and you'd best believe it. Very Elder Statescat (18 years old).
Voo on a camping trip in Colorado.

Hmm, let's see...
2010: Fired from the first truly stable job I've had in my adult life. (Apart from a few months since, I've been relegated to the gig economy. I'm trying to find a way to make my resume look less anemic than it is as I try to find a Real Job in the upcoming year.)
2011: Kind of just a blur. Don't remember anything particularly good or particularly bad, apart from my conversion disorder chugging along and zapping me with pseudoseizures for the lolz.
2012: Same as 2011. Wash, rinse, repeat.
2013: Good was writing some poems that Clive Barker liked. This was overshadowed by the big bad of losing three of my cats over a six-week period (to hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and FIV). Oh, I also broke my nose.
2014: My funky fingers started getting weird on me, and I had to have hand surgery to fix a trigger finger.
2015: Aw, right knocker, thanks for thinking about me and giving me a lump. Which gave me the gift that keeps on giving in the form of a months-long infection following your biopsy. And I'm pretty sure this is when I graduated to Bifocals R Us.
2016:
2017: The best thing of the year was moving on up to trifocals.
2018: Hello, Mystery Neck Lump. Aw, you wanna stick around for three biopsies? And you brought along your friend, thyroid lumpette? No, please, stop, I can't handle the bounty here.
2019: Stress-a-rama getting everything packed up to move out of KY, and driving out west with all I own. I'm pretty sure I've managed to fuck up my left wrist during the process, since it's been hurting daily since late July and physical therapy on it isn't helping much.
Really need to work on my optimism during the new year.

"Mystery Neck Lump" needs to be a rank asap.
I don't really have any reminiscences from 2019 to share. I did however make a resolution. Gonna try to send at least one piece of postal mail every day this year. Probably won't make it a month into this idea, but am going to at least try. Been warming up to it this week, and it's been fun stepping away from the Net for a bit.

I've been so "nose to the grindstone" for the last decade or so the time had just whizzed by. I remember very damned little of it, honestly.

I did see that my Xmas card to my dad's cousin-in-law came back as undeliverable. He must have been close to 100. My guess is he didn't just up and move away.

Literally nothing of interest has happened in my life this last decade. 🤷🏻♂️

Same here. But since I try to be one of those "even keel" type people, I don't really regret the fact.

Tomorrow afternoon, I will have an opportunity to catch up with someone who sort of "dropped off" back in 2013.
Not sure if this is a memory, really, though it's an interesting and unexpected link to the past.

A bunch of us ate lunch today with someone who left our dept in October -- less than 3 mos ago -- to take a job at a high school. All she could talk about was the toxic atmosphere there and how much she wants to be back with her pards in Children's Services. It was a happy reminder of how good it is to be away from toxic workplaces. I have been in this job since Halloween 2011, expecting it to be kind of terrible, but I've never looked back before today -- and today it was all gratitude.

Same here. But since I try to be one of those "even keel" type people, I don't really regret the fact. I tend to disagree with this. What about nursing school? What about the reasons you left nursing school? What about clawing your way back to become King Shit of Turd Mountain, back in the meat saddle again, choose your inappropriate metaphor?
(If "meat saddle" isn't one of our rankings, well, maybe in needs to be.)

Happy New Year to all on the board! I'm going to try to make the best of 2024, despite most people's assertions that it's gonna be a wacky ride. Made a resolution to read at least ten books this year. We'll see how that goes. Also, anyone have any specific Bingo Card thoughts for the new year?

No bingo card as such. But I am planning a year off from the PhD program. I have a few family things that have been on hold for too long, and I've been circling around burned out for too damn long.
Downside: by the time I actually get the degree I will be even further out from being a hire-able age for any serious Uni teaching position. But worth the risk to be able finish without spinning down into a serious bout of depression/disconnection from my loved ones.
