But did any of you notice your theater always playing Xian movies? Or is that just a Bible Belt thing?
Also El Santo: You need to add "Enys Men" (2022) to your watch list so you can tell me wtf I watched.

I don't think any of those has made it into a regular commercial theater around here since Samson ate shit at the box office in 2018. Maybe we might have got something in 2021, when the theaters were all trying to figure out how to operate under pandemic conditions, and most of the plausibly marketable stuff was going straight to streaming? <Looks up Enys Men> Huh. You know, that looks right up Juniper's alley...

You know, that looks right up Juniper's alley... Yeah, if she has the time, that'd be great. It's an interesting movie, even if I couldn't make much sense of it. There are only a couple of scenes where it was necessary, but I was amazed at the excellent make-up effects.

What can anybody tell me from first-hand experience with intermittent fasting? Just back from my yearly doctor visit and she suggested it as a way to lose some pounds. My big question is, When they say 14 hours a day for three days a week, they're not talking about time while you're asleep, are they?

What can anybody tell me from first-hand experience with intermittent fasting? I misread that as "intermittent fisting."

My big question is, When they say 14 hours a day for three days a week, they're not talking about time while you're asleep, are they? I would imagine not. I've never attempted what you're contemplating, but if I were going to, I'd make damn sure I got a good breakfast before starting the clock. One reason for that ought to be self-evident, but there's also a less obvious physiological reason. If you don't eat at all during the first hour or so after you awaken, it can switch your metabolism into an energy-saving mode that locks down your fat reserves. If you eat soon after awakening, however (almost literally anything will do the trick), your body goes, "Okay-- obviously we must know where our next meal is coming from," and leaves the keys to the fat reserves on the dresser for your mitochondria to use as needed.

Thanks so much for the reply. I think I'm going to give it a go. Basically, three out of seven days a week from now on I'm going to just have breakfast and that's it. Breakfast has always been my crucial meal for the day, anyway. She suggested things like Metamucil and Chromium to help staunch food cravings.

I don't know that a movie called "Civil War" is such a dandy idea this particular year? Regardless of the message, it feels slightly cynical of the producers.

What can anybody tell me from first-hand experience with intermittent fasting? I misread that as "intermittent fisting." Whatever we call it, I failed on that first experiment because I didn't take the caloric intake part seriously at all. I was doing the 14hr fasting and even walking and bicycling and working in the yard, but I was still eating garbage. Until I cut out potato chips and so much processed crap, I don't think I'll see any serious weight loss. It was still good just for testing how it feels to skip food for 14 hours stints. Maybe I'll take another stab at it as the hot months move in. I think it'd be easier to skip or eat smaller meals when it's boiling outside.

This one kind of goes out to Killer Goldfish, but anyone can chime in: How come I've never heard of a serial killer offing themselves? Seems like surely one or several would have a moment of clarity and perhaps even some remorse for their deeds and end it. Do the only ones who do suicide do it only because the authorities are closing in on them? Is the thrill of murder that great for them that it overcomes any last bit of humanity left in the corners of their souls?

Seems like surely one or several would have a moment of clarity and perhaps even some remorse for their deeds and end it. Do the only ones who do suicide do it only because the authorities are closing in on them? Is the thrill of murder that great for them that it overcomes any last bit of humanity left in the corners of their souls? Now what on earth made you think I knew anything about this? (bats eyes seductively) Some of them do kill themselves, but there's not as much to hullabaloo about when they do, so you normally hear less about those guys. Examples: David Maust hanged himself in his cell, leaving behind a note saying he hoped it would give some peace to the families of his victims. John Crutchley died in his cell with a bag over his head and a strap around his neck, but Crutchley being who he was, nobody could decide whether it was suicide or an autoerotic accident. It's not well-known but Jeff Dahmer started campaigning to get someone to kill him as soon as he got inside the slammer. He went around telling black cellblock mates that he killed those guys because he was a racist, for instance. A guy who was in prison with him the day he died said Dahmer's last words were "I wish you would just kill me." He was born again and considered suicide to be a terrible sin, so this was his work-around. Herb Baumeister, learning that they'd found the remains in his backyard, drove to Canada, wrote a suicide note, ate a peanut-butter sandwich and blew his own head off. Thomas Bunday, who knew he was about to be arrested for the North Pole murders, steered his motorcycle into an oncoming semi. Maury Travis, who had done prison time before and vowed never to go back, wrote a taunting letter to the police that led them to the body of one of his victims, AND straight to Maury. He hanged himself in his cell, the dumbass. Israel Keyes killed himself but I have no details. At his sentencing, Ed Kemper asked for death by torture. He is still alive and well at Atascadero after lo, these many years. Not everyone has the guts to end it. Time for Wapner!
