May 4th is National Black Authors Day. I think I have another Percival Everett I haven't read yet around here somewhere...

One more: May is Garden for Wildlife month. I just secured 2 buckets of sunchokes to increase their holdings in the back forty. Planted anything lately that feeds the local insects?

I bought some sunchokes at the farmers' market several years ago, but I didn't care for them at all. To be fair, I suspect I didn't cook them right.

It's finally "Clean Up Your Room" day, everybody!
Yeah, I'll be ignoring that, too.

I don't even know what a sunchoke is. Helianthus tuberosus is a 6-foot member of the sunflower family with tiny little flowers at the top of the plant and delicious potatolike roots at the bottom. They are wonderful roasted.

May 20th is World Bee Day. You may be interested to know that Tony Todd got paid an extra $1,000 per sting when he starred in CANDYMAN, which used non-CGI bees on the set. He made almost thirty grand extra playing that role.

Bees are fantastic. I used to be afraid of them when I was little, but now I absolutely love them.

Most children are afraid of bees. I suspect that's because they don't know how to spot the differences between them and, say, hornets or yellowjackets, which do indeed warrant a certain amount of trepidation.

It didn't help that my dumb butt used to pick bees that died inside our porch in Maryland and attempt to play with them. Yes, I got stung by dead bees more than once.

Someone on Threads, with an American accent, said May 26th is National Redhead Day. Didn't we just do that a short time ago though?

Gators Daily informs me that May 29th is also National Alligatos Day. The rites must be solemn indeed.
