Same here. I was a nut for them when they took over the game rooms in the malls here (from pinball machines, Foosball tables, etc), but got too busy over the years to pick them up again. I know I'd probably love gaming, but there just aren't any more hours in the day for another hobby/pastime here.
Truth told: I'm so out of touch with popular entertainment trends over the last 20 years, my nephew has to explain half the people's costumes to me at Pensacon. I'm like, "Is she from a game? Anime character? Are they supposed to be an animal? Mineral? Vegetable?". One woman was wandering around in nothing but a skin-colored, skin-tight leotard with what looked like vines or leaves here and there. I figured she was Biblical Eve or something and didn't give it another thought. Nope. From "Evangelion" or some other Japanese animated series I just don't have the time to look into. I hear they are great, I just don't have the attention-span/fortitude for TV series. I'm sorry. I'm doing the typing equivalent of "thinking out loud" tonight. I'll stop babbling now.
That's not babbling. It's too much to keep up with when you're out there living your life.
For me it's definitely a time thing. Granted, my own viewing habits could probably do with a freshen-up. I'm still perfectly content to wallow around in old 60s, 70's, & 80's filth. Probably couldn't hurt to broaden my viewing horizons. I just don't want to get locked into something like "Dragonball Z". Apparently, that show's been on for 20-something years now? I dunno. My experiences with Japanimation have been mixed. Some of the feature-length ones are truly brilliant film-making. Some of the lighter fare, like Studio Gimli (Gibli?) don't really do it for me. Probably would have been wondrous to see when I was little, though.

If you were going to like a Studio Ghibli film, it would be either Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (giant bugs, airships that look like steampunk B-17s, and a war to control the world's last living, sentient hydrogen bomb, all in a post-apocalyptic setting) or Princess Mononoke (Edo period environmentalist parable involving a feral child and nature spirits going to war against humanity after several of their number are perverted into nigh-indestructible rage zombies by the advent of industry).

I've seen the later. I forgot that was a Ghibli. Jesus, what a saddening film, though. I think I teared up a bit by the end. I swear to this day that "Avatar" blatantly ripped off elements from "Princess Mononoke".

Other stuff I learned today is that Studio Ghibli isn't all fluff. In my original comment, I was thinking of titles like "My Neighbor Totoro", Kiki's Delivery Service", and "The Secret World of Arrietty". But I've enjoyed ones like "Spirited Away" and "Howl's Moving Castle" that I enjoyed. Looking over their catalog, there are several more that look intriguing.

Well, after I wrote a kudos and slung it in the kudos collector at work because a co-worker returned the agency car keys on time AND filled the tank for.me, I actually started the car and was blasted out of the seat by the gravelly voice of Alex Jones issuing from the talk-radio station she was listening to. I noted with interest that she is apparently one of the Trumpettes in the agency woodpile...

I would do it in a flash if I could find a chemical -- or in this case, a chemtrail -- that would eradicate the stain...

TIL there is such a thing as a Ph.D. in taxation.
And the world is just a bit sadder because of that.

Ogre from Skinny Puppy was on a whole season of Teen Wolf.

So anyway, I stumbled across a box with some of my old CDs in it and decided to give The Age of Plastic by the Buggles a spin. Aside from the nostalgia kick, I found myself thinking "Why are these songs all reminding me of something else?"
I did some poking around on Teh Intarwebz --apparently Trevor Horn is a serious J.G. Ballard fan. Most of the Buggles' output was based on one of his stories or another.

Says here in the book I'm reading that when tea was first imported to the Colonies that later became us, the colonists boiled the leaves, threw the water out, and ate the leaves with butter and salt. I'm struggling to imagine how that would have tasted.

Yeah, the whole joke was he chose that name not realizing it was for a car, not a person.
(That is literally all I remember about the book at this point.)

I'm struggling to imagine how that would have tasted. Well that's weird. We came from over there, so it's not like we were unfamiliar with how to drink tea.

I just found out a guy I was sleeping with for many years was cheating on his partner. With me.

It's a solid commitment to deception and dishonesty! I can't even comprehend the sheer drain it must be to lead a double life like that. A lot of people do, though.

It's a solid commitment to deception and dishonesty! I can't tell whether you're saying that with admiration or bitterness.
