It was news to me today that migraines can come with a specific virus. We have all been passing around foot & mouth disease at the dept and apparently the adult presentation is very different from that of the kids who gave it to us: children have their mouths filled with enormous blisters, but the adults feel as if they are coming down with a cold that never quite comes into bloom. The initial sore throat just stays, day after day, and turns into an ear infection with jaw pain, an outrageously stiff neck and finally a really nasty migraine. Even as migraines go.

I learned today that cheating on your spouse is a felony in Michigan. Some guy who did it was recently offered the choice of paying the missus $6,000 or enjoying a stay in jail.

I just learned that Chiang Kai-Shek's old party, the Kuomintang, still exists, and is in fact one of Taiwan's three major political factions. Maybe that shouldn't surprise me so much, but I'm not used to dictators' parties still hanging around for decades after their dictatorships are no more.

Alessandra Mussolini doesn't belong to the National Fascist Party, though-- nor indeed to its short-lived successor, the Republican Fascist Party. And Saudi Arabia doesn't even have political parties in the same sense as even the bullshittiest republics. So of the examples you give, only BongBong Marcos (who leads his dad's New Society Movement in addition to being president of the Philippines) is really an apples-to-apples parallel. |
