Saw "Evil Dead Rise" (2023) last night and it was pretty good! I liked it a lot better than the 2013 "Evil Dead". You know, I've never seen an Evil Dead movie. The first couple are pretty good. I'm not as crazy about them as many horror fans, but I have very arbitrary tastes.

You know, I've never seen an Evil Dead movie. Not even "Army of Darkness"? Yikes...
Hmmm... wait, maybe I've seen that? Or part of it.

Hmmm... wait, maybe I've seen that? Or part of it. But watch "Equinox" (1970 film) before you see any of the "Evil Dead" franchise, and tell me with a straight face that there aren't a bunch of similar elements. Don't get me wrong: The "Evil Deads" are superior to "Equinox", but Raimi had to have watched that movie prior to writing the "ED's". I like to imagine on Super-8 from one of those old Warren Magazine advertisements in Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine when he was a kid.

I've never understood dudes (invariably) using their shoulders to force doors open in movies and TV. Maybe I have weak shoulders, but that shit hurts and kicking them in is far more effective.

I've kicked in a door. It's quite satisfying.

It's just one of the masculine counterparts to all the feminine tropes in movies and TV. In the movies, a woman can't run 3 steps without falling and then she can't get up until a man comes and physically picks her up, or at least she has to take his hand to get to her feet. Similarly, a man can yank a woman's necklace off so the chain breaks...but later, she can magically put it back on with no problem, as if the chain had grown back somehow while everyone was talking.

I "called" this a year ago around Halloweentime.*
*That is to say, I was saying the next Terrifier movie should be set during the holidays.

It weirds me out how old and dated a movie like 1992's "My Grandpa is a Vampire" seems to me, when on the other hand the 90's still don't seem like that long ago. Conclusion: I'm ancient.

It just dawned on me. I've never seen the original EVIL DEAD! There's almost no point, since the second is basically a remake and all-round better.

It's a whole 'nother level of irony that there are "reaction" videos to Moby's "Are You Lost in the World Like Me?" video, and still sadder that I'm here pointing that out.

I liked "Evil Dead Rise" from earlier this year, although a lot of purists didn't. It's like come on, y'all. How many times do you have to retell the same damn cabin-in-the-woods story?

On this day in 1978, the movie "Magic" opened in the U.S., and I still have never gotten around to seeing it. I've seen a few good puppet/doll horrors, but it seems like there's only so many directions they can take things. You know?

If I've never played the video game, should I even bother with "Five Nights at Freddy's", the movie?
