I listened to Hüsker Dü for so long and at such a high volume as a teenager that my hearing is blown out on exactly the frequencies at which Bob's guitar used to overdrive his amps. It's a wee bit creepy.
I have a colleague who served in an artillery battalion --he describes exactly the same selective hearing loss.

Fulfilled a thirty-year long longing Thursday night. I finally saw D.R.I. (a.k.a. Dirty Rotten Imbeciles), creators of one of my all-time favorite hardcore albums. Met up with ex-bandmate and fellow Drewid Django and went to the Brooklyn Bazaar. It was great. My ears are still kind of ringing. Here's arguably their most famous classic track:
