Cocaine Bear A bear does cocaine and kills people. Was it everything you'd hoped it would be? I liked it. Had more story than I was expecting, which I guess some people enjoy. But I liked the bear.

"You, the Living" (2007) last night. Odd, languid slice-of-life moments and dream recollections in the lives of random, dour Swedes. Very hard to describe adequately. By the end, the director had me laughing at sad things, and visa-versa. For some reason, the disastrous table cloth trick and the Louisiana Brass Band playing while a thunderstorm rages outside stuck with me the most. But there are countless strange moments throughout.

Oh, I also saw "My Best Friend is a Vampire" (1987) yesterday. It's even better than "Once Bitten" and "My Demon Lover" and the whole movie SCREAMS 1980's.

I don't keep up with dates well at all, but apparently "Walpurgis Night" is/was soon? Anyway, in honor I watched this (see attachemnt) perfect little number with Michael Gough last night. It's pretty much everything I could have hoped for in an early-70's occult-themed horror film. Amazingly, the provocative moment on the movie poster art happens in the first minutes.

"La Dernière Nuit" (1976), aka "The Last Night", aka "Shocking!" Crazy French adult film about the last night on earth. Interspersed with comical hotline dialogues between the oafish Russian and American leaders are montages of real war footage. The world is on the brink of WWIII and no one's sure whether they'll live to see tomorrow, and yet a guy who looks too much like Vic Tayback for my liking is determined to host his usual dinner party. We get short introductions to the people attending the party, and there are the sounds of bombs falling and guns firing in the background the entire film. As the night continues, people shed their inhibitions until things culminate in a bizarre orgy between the father (Mel lookalike), his whoring wife, their crossdressing son, the butler, the father's secretary, and the son's tutor.

I tried my first Nick Kroll comedy special and couldn't make it 10 minutes in.

Also struck out on "The Third Eye" (1966) for last night's view. Slow Italian tale of psycho mom and son, their greedy maid, and several unlucky women who cross one or all three. I kept checking my phone for Playoffs scores instead of paying much attention, and it was still easy to follow because it moves so slow. I really expected the taxidermy scenes to be some sort of foreshadowing, too. Just a disappointing movie all round. But, don't take my word on it. Gets a 6.2 on the IMDb.

I tried my first Nick Kroll comedy special and couldn't make it 10 minutes in. Is this stand-up? I watched the entire run of his sketch show a number of years ago, and while I didn't think at first that I was going to like it, largely because so much of it was satire of reality TV, I actually found it remarkably funny. I've also seen him make some very funny guest appearances on other shows, including several on Comedy Bang! Bang!

Bang! This one was a stand-up where he apparently utilized several different "characters", a la John Leguizamo. I couldn't make it past the first character. Maybe I should give it another chance? I know other comedians seem to think the world of him.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 3" (2023) was excellent and a fitting capper to what I'm assuming is the last of that series. I'm as tired of capeshit as the next viewer, but dang if I don't enjoy these.
