Watched one earlier called "The Timekeepers of Eternity" (2021). It's actually the 1995 TV miniseries of Stephen King's The Langoliers painstakingly redone by shooting stills of each frame in black & white and trimmed down to an hour. The thing with Bronson Pinchot?

The thing with Bronson Pinchot? The very same! Do you remember that early music video by Aha (Take Me On) with the roto-scoped and hand-drawn imagery? It's slightly similar to that. Worth at least one watch solely for the technique. And Mr. Pinchot, of course.

How Saba Singing A documentary about David Wisnia, who surved in Auschwitz by singing to the guards and officers. One of the most emotionally moving things I've seen in a while.

Well, I got to watch two movies and an episode of Mysteries of the Abandoned (love that show) today. I couldn't really go anywhere with the work being done on the gas line. Anyway, saw "Watchers" (1988) based on a Dean Koontz novel. Also, "The President's Analyst" (1967) with James Coburn. They were all fine time-wasters that kept my mind off the bill (ouch).

"Night of 1000 Cats" (1972) is one of those movies I've had a tough time landing a print of for years. Anyway, finally can scratch that off my to-see list. It ends as only a movie about a wealthy guy who lures women to his secluded estate to kill and feed them to his cat herd could end. It felt kind of like another retelling of the "Bluebeard" story, although he doesn't marry any of the women, and he keeps their heads in formaldehyde.

"Among the Living" (2014) French horror about some kids skipping school and wandering an old film studio lot, where they run across a woman being kidnapped by a creepy masked dude. They are spotted and a different creepy naked mutant sneaks around the suburbs hunting them down. Got really graphic at times. Lots more to the story than that, just don't wish to give too much away. There are some weak plot points, but that's every horror film, it seems.

This was quite a surprise. I'd heard it was similar to "Heavy Metal" and it got surprisingly good ratings on IMDb, but when I previewed it appeared to be just an excuse to show some tits and gratuitous violence. It's actually excellent, with tight writing and a profound message. Recommended.

I saw the original "The Invisible Man" (1933) for the first time. It occurred to me that Dr Jack Griffin may have had the highest kill-count of any of the Universal Monsters. Well, I suppose Dracula is still tops if you include his countless victims over the centuries. For "in-a-single-movie" though? It's got to be The Invisible Man. He gleefully sends a passenger train off a cliff, killing a hundred-or-more during his brief reign of terror.

They could have <spoilers> shown the promising young chemist slowly undergoing the changes from his experiments. It was smart to just roll things out with him already "turned" personality-wise and then just referring to how he wasn't always that way later.

And it's got several helicopter scenes that rival "Twilight Zone" for sheer cast-endangerment.
Here's a scene of the lead and his henchman feeding girl scraps to the cats. I don't think it was a 1000, but there's more cats in this thing than I've ever seen in one movie. As you can see...not the best print (from VHS).

Fucking "My Demon Lover" (1988) tonight. This is the sort of movie that I could have seen on another night and hated. Fortunately, I was in the mood for just this sort of 80's comedy/romance fluff tonight. It's a love-letter to NewYawk with attempted "Beetlejuice" vibes. Checks nearly every 80's movie box.

It appears there are a couple of watchable versions of it on YouTube!

Have you seen Strays? It's about a family that moves into a mansion overrun by stray cats.
The cat's-eye POV shots are priceless.

Saw "Rider on the Rain" (1970) last night. Amazing that it has a PG-13 rating. There's a fucking rape scene! Anyway, I didn't care for it. It felt like people making bad decisions all through the story. It did clear some aspects up by the finale, and Charles Bronson was great.
Also, watched Fairy Tale Theater's "The Boy Who Left Home To Find Out About the Shivers" (1984). Holy crap! If you've never seen it, get a load of this casting: It's got Vincent Price as narrator, David Warner as the innkeeper, Christopher Lee as the King, Frank Zappa as a hunchback. Several other fine character actors involved, too. It's cheaply made for TV, but good fun.

Saw "Evil Dead Rise" (2023) last night and it was pretty good! I liked it a lot better than the 2013 "Evil Dead".

"The Strawberry Mansion" (2021) - An almost impossible-to-describe story dealing with dreams/reality intermingling in wonderful, terrible ways. Think one part "Inception", one part Pee Wee's Playhouse, one part Black Mirror, and one part "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" on a school play budget. And the budget doesn't bother at all because so much of this is dream imbued logic. I'd advise against watching previews, as they don't do it justice. My only issue with it was Grace Glowicki as Young Bella. She just didn't have the same eccentric glow to her that Penny Fuller does as old Bella.
