"Boarding School" (2018) tonight. Wow. I live for cold views like this (no idea going in to them). One of the weirdest movies I've seen in a few. Loved it.

Seen this before, but I personally think it's one of Sam Raimi's best and was a fine rewatch last night. Stellar cast, tight script by Billy Bob Thornton, great Southern Gothic atmosphere, gorgeous cinematography, there's really little to fault about this one.

The Shooting Acid western starring Warren Oates and Jack Nicholson. Is that an actual western subgenre? Lie to me if you have to.

This is one of the scariest documentaries I've ever seen.

This was alright. I liked how they subverted the formula. I kept thinking I maybe had things figured out, and they'd change it up. Cool-ass poster art, too.

What did you think? I thought it was alright. I'm not as big a fan of the originals as most, but those fans didn't seem too pleased.

Last night was "Fury of the Demon" (2016), a French documentary on a lost film that supposedly caused audiences to go mad. It's not genuine, but they do such a damn good job, it's worth a watch.

I feel like I watched this a couple years ago but see no reference to it here. 😕 Maybe I just read about it.

If it turns out you have not in fact seen it, I would say to definitely try and hunt it up.
Also, I would very much like a tee shirt of the poster art.

"Mysteries" (1978) was nigh incomprehensible. I definitely felt like it was over my pointy head. Apparently, from others thoughts on the IMDb, I was far from alone in this estimation.

The Savage Eye (1959) is a fascinating proto-mondo slice of LA street life from a bygone era. Capturing storefronts; card parlors; nightclubs; beauty salons; calisthenics classes; parades; a faith healing service; an AMAZING look at some sort of mardi gras-like event at a gay bar; auto accident victims; boxing match, New Year's Eve party; and tons more. It's framed through the eyes of a recently separated woman and a male voice-over (credited as "the Poet", but he also claims to be her guardian angel). They both utter cynical beat era style poetry snippets throughout. Deep pronouncements on the emptiness of modern life. Mostly sardonic, but at other times quite poignant. The soundtrack ranges from solo piccolo warbling to a full blown jazz orchestra of shrieking horns, trembling strings, and thunderous drums pounding. Not going to lie, some of it came off as mighty pretentious, but it was still a far better view than I was expecting sitting down to it.

Sounds fascinating. And I want to see this bit: an AMAZING look at some sort of mardi gras-like event at a gay bar BTW - That bit occurs near the tail end, in case you can't be bothered with all the ennui throughout the rest of the show.

Watched "Lost & Found Video Night #5" last night. for those familiar, it was a compilation video project put out by the folks behind the 5MinutestoLive.com site. Pretty crazy mix of mostly bad music videos, advertisements, TV bloopers, and just assorted weirdness. I have seven more sitting here. I know I've seen at least one of them. Good stuff if you're in the right mood.
As a follow-up later, I saw "Dollman vs. Demonic Toys" (1993). I like Tim Thomerson. He's kind of a throwback to the square-jawed hero figure of yore* as the diminutive Dollman. I knew I wasn't sitting down to Oscar-worthy material, but sometimes Full Moon just fits the bill (as Choconado knew well). The interesting takeaway from this one is that it suceeded as "world-building", so to speak. The Dollman franchise, plus the Demonic Toys, plus a similarly shrunken blonde babe in this one explains her backstory from the movie "Bad Channels" (1992) which I saw a few months ago.
*Kind of like the parts Leslie Nielsen used to get before switching to comedy later in his career.
