I googled it and it is two different movies. Huh. What are the odds?

Watched "Maniac Killer" (1987) last night. I pride myself on being one of those who can find something to like in nearly everything I watch, but damn was that a steaming pile of crap. Bo Svenson is horribly miscast as "Count Silvano". Guy is great in big bad Texas lawmen roles and so on. Awful as a European Count, however. It reminded me of "Uninvited" from a week ago in that it felt like a parody of itself.

I think they're planning on taking another shot at a series. I've only ever seen the one you saw, but I hear the sequels and the TV series were...less than satisfying for most fans.

Watched one called "Sweetheart" (2019) late last night. Young woman is trapped on a tropical island she washed up on after a boat she and some friends were on capsized. An already bad survival situation is made worse by a carnivorous night hunting creature. Surprisingly good. Definitely recommended.

Just kidding. That does sound comfy, at least.
I gave up on Netflix when they gave up on sharing accounts*. For whatever reason, it's back to watchable again, so I might have to check that out.
*To be fair, it's not like they lost any bu$iness from me not being able to access.

A lot of buzz around a new one called "No One Will Save You" (2023) and it lived up to the hype. "Talk to Me" is still my pick for best horror movie (thus far) this year, but "No One Will Save You" is one of the best alien encounter movies ever.

Trancers Blade Runner meets the Terminator on a five dollar budget. With Tim Thomerson! For God's sake, just leave the sequels alone for your own sanity.

Whoever scored "The Mesa of Lost Women" (1953) only 2.7 Stars on the IMDb was obviously not figuring in the immense entertainment value. I loved every minute of it.

“Fables of the Witching Hour” (2023) – Much like zombie movies, I have a serious weakness for horror anthologies. This is one of the weakest I’ve ever seen, though. A good horror anthology really benefits from a strong wraparound sequence; this one does not have that. As a matter of fact, I suspect that Fables of the Witching Hour was just a bunch of student/amateur horror/fantasy short subjects cribbed together into a full-feature presentation. Even then, I’ve seen that formula done successfully. This was adequate for me just because I’m a forgiving anthology horror fan, but I can’t recommend it to you.

"Monster: Inside America's Most Extreme Haunted House" (2023) - Yep, it's another documentary on Russ McKamey and his whacked out extreme haunt. Despite the doc doing a decent job of trying to explain people's motivations for attempting this sort of thing, and even having some experts weigh in on the psychology behind this, I still for the life of me cannot fathom putting yourself through it. Especially the way McKamey goes about it.
