ESPN's 30-for-30 series' Once Brothers (2010) about two fantastic basketball players from Yugoslavia who's dreams of playing in the NBA came true only to have the bloody civil wars that raged through the 90's (Serbia/Croatia; Serbia/Bosnia) tear them and their country apart.

OK, where do I find a copy of this one? Is it good good or bad good? I have it around here, although I can't recommend it. Haven't been in the right mood to make it through the first fifteen minutes. It seems really extreme and gory and pointless. Who knows though: You might find it adorable.

I finished watching The Magic Sword, and thought it was good, for a Bert I Gordon film, or even for a film period. When UA distributed their "new, uncut print" of Thunder Road to the drive ins in late summer, early fall of 1965, Magic Sword was the second feature.
I'm also watching Todd Slaughter's Crimes at the Dark House which also has one good cleavage shot, which I hope I can get a screen grab of, along with some from The Magic Sword.
And, maybe Invasion USA 1952. Dr. Kobb, did you ever get to see that one yet?

And, maybe Invasion USA 1952. Dr. Kobb, did you ever get to see that one yet? Unfortunately, it appears the only way I'll score it through my usual sources is as the MST3K version from season six. I can however see several different versions of the Chuck Norris movie of the same title from 1985. I wonder if it's a remake?

I always wanted to see this: I'd never wanted to watch it, until I saw that trailer just now! That's the one I can easily land a print of. Even in German! Gotta love/hate those Cannon Group flicks.

I love how prevalent bazookas were in the Eighties.

So true! I'm not sure Cannon ever made any movies without a bazooka or two somewhere or other. Meanwhile, in other viewer news: I saw the horrifying Who Took Johnny (2014), about a still-unsolved abduction case from the early 80's that a mother refuses to give up on. The way missing kids cases are handled has been different ever since. I was especially shocked at the seeming connections to the legendary un-aired BBC documentary Conspiracy of Silence. Weird and creepy and far more believable (though still mind-boggling) than the Pizzagate doc that I watched last week.

Welles in a Gordon flick is just so messed up on so many counts.

Yes, Dr. Kobb. It was on one of those Truman DVDs you sent to me. I thought it was an OK film.

Yes, Dr. Kobb. It was on one of those Truman DVDs you sent to me. I thought it was an OK film. It doesn't do that well on the IMDb. On the other hand, it does fairly well for a B.I.G. film on the IMDb! I can never tell what Bentley Jr has sent me, as he tends to send movies sans titles and credits. Anyway, I might watch that later tonight. I did watch the MST3K version of Invasion USA last night and enjoyed it. Had a short about a "family date night" from the 50's before the main feature that seemed totally unreal. The movie itself was fairly easy pickings, and Mike and the bots did a delightful job carving it up. Loved/hated the cheat hypnosis ending.

Saw the eerie-yet-silly Necromancy (1972), the inspiring The Band That Wouldn't Die (2009); and the hilarious Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). Hadn't see the last in about 30 years. I probably enjoyed it even more today than then.

Coco Probably Pixar's best in a while. From what I've read it's pretty accurate in it's depiction of Mexican Day of the Dead Tradition. Maybe it's because I just recently heard about the death of a friend, but it actually brought me to tears.
Valuable life lesson and SPOILER ALERT:
If you ever murder someone, then go to become a successful singer/actor, it's probably a good idea to not re-enact the crime in one of your movies.

I haven't seen eother of these since the 1970s. I like INVASION about 100% more now than I did when I saw it in the theater. I remember all the magazine articles on how to get your eyes to look just like Jenny Agutter's in LOGAN'S RUN. Memories!
