Now I'm more intrigued by the sex toy hitting the Intl Space Station at 17,000 mph. I guess The Sun has taken up the weird flag from the old Weekly World News? Wait, what? Did I miss something?

Nope. I just screwed up on my cheesy tabloid titles. The Sunday Sport was the one with the article about the sex toy hitting the Intl Space Station at 17,000 mph, not The Sun.

Shisa is a lion? I thought he was a dog??? That's a point of international contention, actually. The Japanese understand Shisa to be dogs, for the totally plausible reason that they look less unlike dogs than any other animal-- especially if we assume one of the flatter-faced Asian breeds. But in China, where the statues originated, they're understood to be lions, which were spiritually significant animals in Brahminism, and therefore in early Buddhism as well. You might ask how that can be, but it makes sense when you realize that the Eurasian lion was already extinct in China by the time Buddhism spread there from India. From an ancient Chinese point of view, a lion was a functionally legendary creature, and sculptors in China kind of just made up what they thought one might look like, based on word of mouth from Indian travelers. It's much the same as how word-of-mouth descriptions of Asian rhinos got twisted into unicorns by Europeans who'd never seen one. Isn't that also how we got those really creepy fish on medieval maps? Whales drawn by people who'd never seen whales?

I'm not usually a big tattoo fan, but sometimes I'll see one that really impresses:

I can watch this ad for "Despicable Me 4" with Nikola Jokic (practically a shoo-in for NBA MVP) over and over:
