On the old ZAQB I started a thread on Whatever Happened to Curtis Sliwa (and, his ex, Lisa, and the Guardian Angels in general).
Have done some searches on Curtis, who will always have a special place in my heart, and found out a bit about him.
Any other fans of Curtis Sliwa here on ZAQB, and anyone who is up to date on his current doings who could tell this lazy Beetle
Bailey at heart, just what Curtis is now doing?

The last I heard from Sliwa was right after George Zimmerman gunned down Trayvon Martin in cold blood. He was on the radio that that incredibly thick Back East accent of his, saying he's sorry dat dis is the current face of duh Naybahood Watch Movement because dis is not what we're about.

Wow. I'm surprised to hear Sliwa said that. I give him credit.
He still appears on the local 24-hour cable news channel in a recurrent segment that's kind of like Point/Counterpoint, except that Sliwa's Counterpoint always consists of him putting on some silly wig or something and doing a ridiculous, histrionic schtick representing the person/side of the issue they're talking about that he disagrees with. Someone apparently told him along the way, cruelly, that he's funny.
My personal Sliwa story was that I was walking down Third Avenue in the wee hours one morning and saw him get out of a cab to go to the local Fox affiliate down the block. It was windy and a fiver from his change from the taxi flew out of his hand towards me. I bent to catch it for him, but he got to it first, and he gave me this look like he thought I was trying to take it. Nice. Actually I just saw him walking into that studio again around the same time a couple of weeks ago. |

In the reading I did on my latest net searches, his ex, Lisa, now going by another surname, was suing him over something, I forget what.
(Could that be "old news?" that I've just found out about?)
Glad to know that Curtis is still employed and doing his thing.

While I have downsized my humongous VHS collection and probably sacrificed some of my Curtis Sliwa interviews, I think I saved at least one out of sentimentality and for Old Time's Sake.
Don't know when I'll be wandering thru my VHS collection again, but one of my favorites was when Curtis appeared with some government officail who (probably intentionally) mispronounced Curtis's surname (probably as Silwa), and also referred to Curtis as part of The Sideshow, a true insult to Curtis, who was always the Main Attraction of any Show that he was in.
