the shared birthday of my recess-yard bully How does one even remember that?
It was a very small world in those days. 2 of my friends also shared that birthday and there was another cluster of April 5th people -- so many of them that 50 years later I still call it Rush Day.
(Besides, I was MADLY in love with my recess-yard bully and clung to every scrap of information about him.)

You're welcome. I think this is the first year I've gotten them out on time.

I actually sort of resent the twelve days of Christmas every year because it delays my own postal pastimes until the rush is done with. I know. It's a grinchy, petty thing to gripe about.
I'm honestly not nearly as down on the holidays as I used to be. Mainly due to better work environment. Makes getting through the season SO much better.

My dislike of holidays continues as strongly as ever. I do get a few Christmas cards. And, last year for the firstime ever, I actaully sent Christmas cards to people, but only because someone had given me a box of the cards years ago, and I just decided it was time to use them up, rather than put them into recycling.
I have been privileged to read some fanzines, where the "real" Forry Ackerman expressed himself, from way way back into the 1950s, and he matter of factly stated that he did not observe Christmas, but he had no objection to anyone sending him Christmas cards, because they were pretty to look at, and he gave them to children in an orphanage to brighten up their lives.
I have one Christmas card left from those I sent out last year, the idea not even occurring to me to send them to people until so near Christmas Day, that they probably did not even get the cards until after Christmas day.
Who wants my Last Christmas Card?
I've offered it to one family member of mine and his live in girlfriend, but so far no response. If he doesn't accept my offer soon, anyone here who might want to be next in line?
Kind of like Gary Lewis and the playboys singing, who wants to buy this diamond ring, huh?

Got mine! Thanks, Mayz. That's going in the archive (of great mail past & present). Your Christmas card was creepier than half the stuff I saw last Halloween!

Horrific as the subject matter was, definitely one of the best as documentaries go. I watched it all in a solid three hour nightmare block, and it didn't feel that long, as immersed as I was in it. Props to those people out there who are computer-savvy and caring enough to track down human refuse like him and help bring them to justice.

I know two (2) people who cancelled their Netflix subscriptions in protest against this doco, but they didn't even get through the trailer, for shit sakes. I saw the whole thing -- the same way you did, Kobbers, in a marathon, on New Year's Eve -- and I was positively inspired by the effort all these people made to bring this asswipe to justice. Long may they wave. It's enough to make me suspect that Facebook has a reason to exist, and that's really saying something.

I know two (2) people who cancelled their Netflix subscriptions in protest against this doco, but they didn't even get through the trailer, for shit sakes. Whut. That's what I said! The thing is they used Luka Magnotta's own kitten- and human-killing videos in the doco -- pretty sensitively and appropriately, I thought -- and none of that was in the trailers they tried to watch, but they still freaked. I hate animal torture as much as anyone out there and I got through the doco itself fine. The only thing I objected to in the trailer was that one of the many pursuers of this skidmark saw one of the kitten videos and said "sooner or later he's going to hurt someone!" This guy was an animal activist. Was he not clear on the fact that the guy had already killed someone -- a little furry someone -- at least 3 times so far?

Discs, discs and more discs from Kobbers! The latest being The Colour Out Of Space. Considering the difficulty so many filmmakers have had adapting HPL's work, I am both excited and filled with trepidation. I know for sure Nick Adams won't be in this one.
Also, there is a photo in here of a person's face made out of a sandwich. It reminds me strangely of the art on the sleeve of I, Robot, the album I've been listening to in the car.

I went in the same way, and the beginning didn't help reassure me in the least. I've actually never read Lovecraft's story, but the movie ended up being pretty great imho.

Hey KG! Remember a few years ago, when you signed Bill Kobb up with a year's subscription to The Week? I did genuinely enjoy it, but didn't ever re-up, despite receiving offers in the Mail. Well, I finally went ahead and went for a new year's-worth. I just think it's funny that it's still coming to "Bill Kobb".
I went for a year of Harper's, too. I used to have them for a while, too. That was back when Lewis Lapham was at the reins. I don't anticipate it being all that different, but we'll see. At the rate they're asking, it'll be worth it just for The Index again.

I still wait all week for the crossword puzzle in the back of that mag. Even though I'm right up to here with all the articles about 45 that point out all the things he's done wrong that never add up to anything. You know, like an arrest.

You're doing better than me. I suck at crosswords. My father (who was a librarian for years) was amazing at them. He'd knock out the NYT crossword while engaging with us mortals in everyday conversation.

Please tell me that Shark Exorcist includes a scene of the shark spewing green goop all over someone.
