Meanwhile, this little ditty has been on rotation in my noggin recently...
No idea why they leave so much silence at the end --maybe whoever it was messed up when they compiled all the pics of the band.
Note: Both Ms. Case and Ms. Calder look smoking hot in a few of these photos. Must be nice to be ungodly talented AND good-looking.

Alice and the rest of the young girls have gotten stuck in my head on numerous occasions. That's exactly the kind of song I was talking about earlier that cuts against Lion King Elton. No idea if you remember Reggie Dwight's appearance on The Muppet Show --not sure what drugs he was on at the time, but he was SOOOOO pissed that his "Elton" shtick had to go up against actual furry puppets...I think he was about a half second from breaking out with 'Jamaica Jerk Off' --and might have, if the show were being broadcast live, instead of taped. Sadly, I don't remember specifics, although I know I saw it, because I was a devoted Muppeteer. Muppetist? Muppeteur?

I dunno. Popped-in "Modern Guilt" for the first time in months on the ride to work. Resonated. This version sounds a bit more trebly* than I listen to it, but still tight stuff.
*Yes, that's correct. It's "make up a word day" here tonight.

While visiting Seattle, I connected (platonically) with a 'net acquaintance. For the past two decades, I've been hanging out mostly with folks who are about 10 years older (age cohort of my first wife) or 10 years younger than I am (age cohort of my second--current--wife).
Hanging out and talking with someone about my own age has triggered some interesting chains of thought --and nostalgia for various 80's new wave tunes. Sorry guys.

Yeah. And more new wave. I heard this song once in 1984 and spent the next two decades wondering if I'd actually heard it. Intarwebz iz teh win, hoomans...

Stop me before I new wave again! I love new wave. I think it gets a bad rap.

It gets a bad rap because it ISN'T rap, which is getting to be almost the only thing besides "cuntry" that you can find on the effing dial. The last two decent alternative stations in the area went "cuntry" a month apart a couple of years ago.
I have just a tiny phrase of music on repeat in my head right now. Remember that moment in NATURAL BORN KILLERS when Dwight McClusky subdues a guy in the cafeteria who wants to fight, using his tweezers? Just for a second it goes quiet and you hear this rastaman type singing, "Too much fighting on de danse flor." That's what I keep hearing.

It's not often, but sometime rap and country meet at an intriguing crossroads:

There was this one brief, bright, moment when it looked like hip hop and college rock/post-punk were going to join forces. That would have been worth it.

But somehow we ended up with rap rock dominating the landscape. 😕

But somehow we ended up with rap rock dominating the landscape. 😕 And rap country (commercial Nashville style) :(

Somewhere along the way, rock seemed to stop being so much about party/good times music into doom and gloom.
