PS to my last post. Many thanks to Dr. Kobb for sending me the MST3K book. While I'll never get, or even watch all of the episodes it details, I can at least read about them.
Everything about that book is a joy, except for the introductions and prefaces which are among the most stupid, idiotic things that I have ever read.

Couldn't agree more. Meanwhile, I binged on season 8 of The Walking Dead, which managed to redeem itself somewhat over season 7. I also started in on season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead only to have my downloads for episode 2 and 3 give me fits trying to burn them off to disc. Will likely be forced to just watch those on the comp, much as I dislike that option.

So, I'm hearing good things about this Westworld TV series. Anybody keeping up with it? Should I bother?

I liked the first season a lot, and the second one is gearing up to be possibly even more enigmatic. I don't know how familiar you are with the movie, but this goes way beyond it.
Useless trivia: 'Twas an episode of Westworld I watched on perhaps the stupidest day in the history of American politics. It was a good distraction as I avoided contemplating the horror.

Well, Fox triple-fucked me today, cancelling The Mick, The Last Man on Earth and motherfucking Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
The Mick is a good Kaitlin Olsen vehicle that I will miss but not overly mourn. I really like her on IASiP so I gave this a shot, even though it looked pedestrian, and it actually turned out to have a smart side that won me over.
Last, despite some undeniable repetitiveness in Will Forte's character, was really a joy to watch. Excellent ensemble that made the outlandishness of it easy to accept, a nice amount of the darker and weirder stuff, and some real narrative power at times. The fact that they killed it after a major cliffhanger pisses me off a lot.
The good news is that other outlets have already expressed interest in picking up Brooklyn, so that could happen. Still a lot of fun. I hope we can get at least one more season out of it.
Fox may now be coasting solely on Bob's Burgers' good will as far as I'm concerned. No, wait, I still like Gotham a lot too.

1. NBC has picked up Brooklyn-Nine-Nine, so, yay. I wish this sort of deal had been more common when certain other shows were on.
2. I have now watched the entire existing run of Schitt's Creek. Needless to say, I quite enjoyed it.
3. I have been taping the new AMC series The Terror and I finally got around to watching the first few episodes. Really liking it.

The finale of The Americans was...I'm not ashamed to say, I wept.
Nobody got out of that thing unscathed. I keep going back to something Juni (if only she would stick her loverly head in here) said a while back: that these are two people who have absolutely no right to be parents. That idea fueled the ending in a BIG FUCKING WAY. Even with an abbreviated season, they packed in so much solid content, so many different threads to make you wonder where it would all lead, and then...wow.

The fact that we didn't actually see Madison buy it in the mid-season FtWD finale makes me suspicious as to whether she's actually gone, massive conflagration and zombie horde notwithstanding. That's often how the producers roll.
I kind of hope not anyway. I love Kim Dickens.

Gangster life. Surfing. Southern California. Three things I have very little use for. And yet I'm totally hooked on the TNT series Animal Kingdom, based on the Australian film of the same name. Basically it's about a family of hoods run by their matriarch (four boys, one adopted, the other three from a different father each), said matriarch played by Ellen Barkin, and...I don't know, the story grabbed me in a way I didn't expect and it's kept me hanging on to the third season, which just started. Interesting that the character who seemed like the least mature, most unreliable one at the beginning has by this point transformed himself into probably the most put-together of the group.

Saw a couple of episodes of a new travel documentary series on Netflix called Dark Tourist. Instantly recognized the host as the guy from that infamous Tickled documentary. Glad to see Netflix was willing to give the bloke some work.

Jumping in on Santo's Buffy and Angel rewatch and greatly enjoying myself so far. We're at season five of Buffy and the seams they are a' showin but there will be a good Anya line and I'm placated. We're on season two of Angel I'm loving it. I'm the heathen type that prefers the spin-off.

You know, I have never seen a full episode of either of those. I take it they're worth it?

I had a very similar reaction to Juni's to the two shows: I've given Buffy many, many chances over the years because it seems like something I should like, but I've just never been able to get into it. But I loved Angel, especially the last season. Buffy is sort of starting with a handicap in that it's a show about teenagers, and I had very little patience for teenagers even when I was a teenager myself; but Angel deals with themes that I've always found a lot more compelling, even when I was in high school: searching for purpose, found families, questions of free will, etc. Both are worth checking out, but I think Angel (despite some missteps along the way) is ultimately the stronger show.

I've never lasted an entire episode of Supernatural, either (if it means anything). I used to enjoy The X-Files, back when, so it's not like I'm totally averse to the premise of these sorts of shows.
