Please join me in somber reflection on this the 8oth anniversary of the day that a giant 2-headed elf invaded the city of Boston. The sheer psychological trauma of this event can not be overstated.

If you look closely, you can see Marxo on the rear right back bumper of the motorcar.
Happy Bird Day to all, btw. I'll be joining the family for eats in a bit; then probably coming home to an episode or two of the second season of Netflix's version of MST3K. They're doing Atlantic Rim, which was filmed right here in sunny, hurricane-plagued Pensacola!

It was fun for me personally seeing downtown landmarks on fire and beach-goers at familiar spots being stomped by their wretched monster graphics.
The terrible thing about Atlantic Rim is that I ran across a copy of it before Pacific Rim ever hit theaters. There's enough of the superior product's basic premise in there that you just know someone heard the concept of Pacific Rim and rushed this utter wreck into production to beat it into theaters. I feel just awful for the poor Redbox users who got the two confused.

As I recall, that was how CARNOSAUR came into being. Roger Corman got wind of JURASSIC PARK...and the rest is a pretty sorry page in history.

I wanted to catch the new WWII movie Overlord in theaters, but I have a crappy cold bug this week, and I doubt it will be around a week from now. So, I peeked in at my usual haunts for such things and ran across this crass cash-in from Asylum that sounds like it should make it onto the next season of MST3K.

You recognized my knee socks.
I went to Boston and did the traditional dinner thing for the first time in many years, for year-specific reasons. I wasn't entirely certain as to how I would react internally to it, but the truth is that, while I was quite happy to be around the people I was around, it could have been any dinner on any day, man. I mean, the food gives it away, but I simply got nothing out of the holiday angle of it.

Bought 2 turkey drumsticks and 2 pairs of wings for the ever-shrinking crowd. They are defrosting now. (The turkey parts, not the crowd.) To my astonishment I actually remembered to buy oven bags this year!

Well, every year I secretly dread the get-together, and every year it actually turns out quite nice after all.

This year went remarkably well. Even though I forgot to use the oven bags.

As best I can remember, with a single exception for Mrs. Caution's family, there has been no "family get together" for either Thanksgiving or Xmas in my life for going on 28 years.
I don't miss it. Not even a little.

I'm not a big one for Thanksgiving, other than the deep longing it instills in me for a viewing of Blood Freak.
But this year, facing a double threat of either a keto-friendly dinner (viz., turkey and mashed cauliflower and many, many regrets) or a "big family" dinner cooked by a cousin's new gal, we were cajoled into the latter. (Multiple tables, so I'm not even sure how many people were present. No serving wenches, though.)
I don't know whether to blame the illness I'm just now crawling out of on some of the vittles (J'accuse you, gravy) or the sportsball games I was forced to be in the same room with, but...gah, what really cheesed me off about the whole thing is the automatic assumption that a) I want to be in your photos and b) I love that said photos are posted automatically to Facebook and/or Instagram.
This is why I hate family gatherings.
