My watermelon day was ruined late in my shift last night by an Asian Karen (Karin?) who had me dig down to the bottom of one of our melon bin for just the right melons for some work assembly she had going on today. Fuck you, Karin. Question: did she seem like a local, or someone who'd moved to the U.S. recently? U.S. produce is utter trash by most East Asian standards --and as the shopkeeper, you'd be responsible for trying to move sub-par stock. Japan, for example, is the home of the $10 strawberry and the $95 watermelon. She definitely had an accent, but I've met Asians who spent years Stateside whose English sounded similar. We have a lot of military brides from the Philippines and Vietnam and elsewhere, due to so many military retirees settling down here. I couldn't even gauge an age on this gal, or whether her hair was naturally black fading to gray and yellowish. She kept going on about how it was for a work function, so yeah, I understand wanting to grab the best. This chick was just a nightmare to deal with. Almost like a set-up. Like a purposeful, "Let's see how the employee handles this situation." It was absolutely ridiculous that she had to have two melons at the back of the bin, all the way at the bottom of the thing.
After she chewed up a solid half hour, I just retired to the back to start my closing duties early. The on duty manager was bringing pallets of bottled water through the store to place outside the front entrance and she stopped HIM and hassled him about some bagged mangoes. Just a real piece of work this woman.

Yeah. That does suck. And no Alan Funt popping out at the end of it ☹️

The radio in my new car, Li'l Dagora, informs me that today (October 20th) is both Chocolate at the Office Day and Chicken and Waffles Day. I wonder if it's a workable crossover to make it Chicken and Waffles Mole In The Office Day...

I was thrilled that someone at the garden app announced Black Cat Appreciation Day today, but when I looked it up I discovered it fell on August 17th.

I heard on the car radio that today, Jan 24th, is National Compliment Day. Then a co-worker said she'd heard that it's National Peanut Butter Day.
Say it with me, people: "My, what an outstanding peanut-butter sandwich you have there!"

Valentine's Day is also National Organ Donor's Day. Because nothing says "be mine" like a chunk of your liver.

Buckle your seatbelts, everyone! I just struck a vein of obscure holidays and the like:
Feb 11th was White Shirt Day.
Feb 16th was Lithuanian Independence Day.
Feb 19th was Hidden Heroes Day, whatever that means.
Most glittering of all: Feb 23rd will be Scoliosis Screening Awareness Day!!! Whoo-hoo!

Evidently March 7th was Flapjack Day. Which is apparently separate and distinct from Pancake Day, mentioned above.

Turns out we missed World Bear Day on March 23rd. The map I saw indicated panda bears are counted as bears...so, Bearcats also, maybe? But Spectacle Bears were not on the bear map, and neither were grizzlies or their kissing cousins, the Kodiaks or the elusive Grolar Bear, aka the Pizzly. So I dunno
