For no particular reason today, it occurred to me: - Even when I'm getting super-heavy income tax withholding (due to my tuition benefit at the U. being taxed) I almost never have to worry about cashflow anymore.
- Even though I have debts, I also have a retirement account
- Even if my marriage isn't "perfect", we're pretty damn happy most of the time
- Even if I'm a bit of a fat-tailed old lizard, my job lets me work from home, I have at least some time to exercise and my...erm...well, it still works pretty good.
When I was a whip-tailed youngster with a lot of angst, I didn't think I'd have all of the above for various reasons (older, bigger lizards chasing me off the best rocks, various health conditions, relatively few prey animals in easy reach, too many scorpions and tarantulas about, etc...)
I am a fortunate reptile.
That is all.

Yeah, I used to be a hothead: drinking too much, putting my fist through walls, quick to anger. I'm so mellow compared to younger days. I'm not finding the whole ageing thing all that terrible...yet. I've been extremely fortunate, health-wise. I think when I get to that age when I'm in constant pain from half-a-dozen maladies, I'll at least consider options for a quick check-out. But I'm hoping that decision is still a good 10-20 years away. You never know, though. Could be tomorrow driving home from work or something. I think it really is important to be thankful and grateful to just the fact that you're here, alive. You know? Doesn't have to be to any given entity. Just to be glad for the things we get to enjoy while we're alive. Maybe wherever we come from or return to doesn't have all these lovely senses to experience and explore like we do here.
Oh, man. Can you tell I just got home from work and typing total stream-of-consciousness b.s.? I started out replying to the lizard and took off in all sorts of directions. Welp, movie time!

After a year of feeling sad and lonely after we lost Knucklehead, then totally stunned and numb after we lost Creamsicle -- she took sick on the first anniversary -- I suddenly have TWO new kittehs. I woke up this morning in a puddle of cat pee and I didn't even mind.

At the store I saw a dump of Queen Anne Cherry Cola cherry cordials selling 2 for 1. I got a bunch. Regret to inform that they don't particularly taste like cherry cola, but heck, I still have boxes and boxes of chocolare-covered cherries now.
