Got so much done in the yard today...everything but the one item on my agenda, to cut down more of the Putin Grass in the back forty.
Instead I split up and rearranged my Dwarf irises; moved almost all of the Oenothera pallida back behind the fence; replaced it with my half-off garden pinks and all the Jiffy-7 seedlings still alive after I forgot they were outside during a week of ice-cold, pounding rain; put up the trellises and deployed the 5 remaining sweetpea seedlings under them; rescued a Switchgrass and my only Fernleaf Bleeding Heart; swapped out a daylily and a tall phlox; slung the collapsed section of fence down the slope because it was flattening part of the flowerbed; and deployed the rotted-through 4x4s that allowed it to collapse to build a neater-looking flowerbed at the bottom.of the hill. Oh, and some baby plants being eaten by daylilies got moved out into the sun.

Finally found a full time job, salaried yet. With luck I can keep going to the office that's 20 minutes away rather than the office that's over an hour away on a good day.

With Mom's situation still fluid, and all of of just beat down from the last couple of years, we all decided to skip the gift giving part of the holidays 2021 and I for one couldn't be happier. We'll probably get together maybe once or twice or whatever. Obviously, a lot depends on how Ma does. She's already outliving expectations. So who knows? But we pretty much agree that we don't need the extra arbitrary hassle of shopping and wrapping and all that jazz. |

It's been the usual brutal summer heat down here, but you know who's loving it? The yard lizards have been everywhere, and apparently eggs just hatched, as I've been spotting a lot of mini versions. Imagine pinky-sized (from head to tail) Geico lizards and you might get a feel for my "Squeee!" moments going to and from the car, lately.

Quite happy that tropical storm Fred turned into a non (weather) event. Still ungodly weeks of storm season to go. I just wasn't in the mood for that shit this week.

Took a walk down by the water's edge today. Nice change from Fridays working in the yard, running errands, vegetating inside, etc.
It's only a few blocks and down a steep hill to get there, too. Just missed a train going by as I was heading towards the spot to clamor down. Hot as the Dickens walking back into the afternoon sun, though.

I watched a pseudo doc on the hippies called "Like It Is" last night. The reason I'm mentioning it here is because one of my favorite hobbies anymore is to check against those lists people post up to the IMDb to see how many of the films I can locate through the newsgroups. So, for instance, someone posted a huge list of 120 films that qualify (to them) as 'psychedelic' movies. I went through it and located probably 20 or 30 that sounded interesting to me. Did I find everything I'd hoped to? No, but still, it's like 20 or 30 new movies to see in a half hour or so! Whoever it was did a great job, but I could add to their list. I would like to see that list. |

I'm not sure you have any reason to know this, honestly. PMTO is a hideously complicated parenting class Ll of us are expected to excel in and use with all our clients, on the assumption that all adults with kids in mental health services are just, you know, shitty parents. It involves weeks of training and coaching every year, filming yourself teaching the class, showing the video to your co-workers who praise you relentlessly no matter how bad a job you did, missing even more work for booster days and the yearly conference which is mostly about being praised more and being rewarded with chocolate whenever you speak...but mostly it's about failure and humiliation. The parents never, ever use the skills you teach them, even if the kids ask them to. The kids' needs get neglected because you are only working with the parents. You miss at least a couple of work weeks a year attending all this nonsense. The kids' CAFAS scores improve faster without PMTO. In 8 years I still can't remember all the horseshit I have to do in each session under the unforgiving eye of the camera. |
