Today was the second day in a row I ate completely vegetarian. That will end tonight, but my diet is probably more plant-based than meat-based at this point.

Do you find you feel better eating vegetarian? I'm a total omnivore, but I find when I DO have a salad (as I did earlier today), I almost alway feel 'better' the next couple of days. i.e. - more energy, clarity, etc. Which of course begs the question - Well why don't I just go full vegetarian? Sometimes, I just gotta have some chicken. Or a steak.* Or a burger. Or bacon. And so on.
*I actually haven't had a nice steak in over a year. Maybe two?

I gave up bacon and definitely miss it.

I gave up bacon and definitely miss it. Most of my meat intake is in the form of unidentifiable bits mixed in with frozen entrees. I do NOT want to even conjecture what parts of the animal I'm ingesting.

Well, my sleep problems make it difficult to be certain, but generally speaking, I'd say yes. I don't have any specific plans to stop eating meat altogether, barring a very potentially real situation in which the species basically has to wean ourselves off of it through substitutes. I had some take-out ribs from a new place yesterday and they were really excellent.

The dark overlord announced we are getting a bonus this year, for the first time since before I moved into this job (Halloween 2011): Our own corporate overlords have ordained a dollar raise for most of us in the trenches later this month. We've had some really good people leave our store recently, and I have to wonder if this isn't a trend they're seeing across the company. Regardless, it's a nice bit more, as we usually only see a measly 25-cents a year.

Made an all-day job of the yard. Looks pretty great! With all the lithium battery yard tools I've assembled, I can mow, trim, edge, and blow it all off the street in one day now. However, this particular time both daylight and my batteries gave out on me before I could get the blower out. It's all good though. That'll take fifteen minutes tomorrow when I get up.

Made it down to my beloved bluffs today. Apart from the ever-present urine odor along any and all paths down to the water, it's a lovely place to get away from the world for a minute.
That abandoned dinghy's been there for a few weeks now.

Have you checked it for, you know, severed heads or whatever? Might make a god addition to the Halloween display with the correct accoutrements.

I considered it, but I figured lots of other people had also probably been down there since I first saw it. Likely as not anything of value is already gone.
You know, I actually did ponder that Halloween idea for a half-second. "If I could somehow haul that thing up the slope (see top pic above) and then somehow drag it several blocks back to my place. Next, go full Davey Jones with some skeleton pirates, tentacles, et al for Halloween!" Heck, someone left a wrecked boat back towards the back of a vacant property next to my subdivision a couple of years ago. THAT would have been the boat to use for Halloween. And not nearly the logistical nightmare the one in the picture poses just getting it to the house.
But tonight's happiness comes from having one of the best book boxes in town. The fella that built it did an outstanding job constructing it to be airtight and waterproof. The door has two 60lb magnets and if you're not prepared, they exert a lot of pull. It naturally swings closed every time, too. Just really really solid job he did on that thing.
Then, there's having some great neighbors. Most book boxes I see around town have these old, worn out books leaning in all directions, bending the bindings and fraying the pages. I went out to visit mine for the first time in months, and it's as if someone(s) taken on stewardship of the ting for me. Everything upright and so much stuff in there you can't hardly slide a pamphlet in now.

At work, some of the apple boxes come with bubble wrap inserts to keep them from bruising. I had just put out a case and was randomly popping bubbles when I looked up and a little girl that was shopping with her Dad was watching with obvious envy. So, I gave her the bubble wrap and she had the best time with it. At one point, she was tap dancing all over it on the floor. Little thing, but it made my day.

Seems like I posted about an owl hooting one night just before Halloween this year.* I considered it a sort of good omen. Anyway, I'm happy to announce that they've apparently taken up residence in the pines. In all the places I've lived, I've never had a hoot owl singing on a nightly basis.
*But damned if I can recall which thread. Couldn't locate in the Halloween thread. Might have been in this one.
