Maybe PSAs should be considered a separate thing from commercials, but this is maybe my favorite PSA ever - this fucking terrified me when I was 10, but naturally, I also thought it was super awesome: Man, that's one of the best. There's this one PSA that also used to freak me out from the late 80s-early 90s that was about unsafe sex that I just cannot find online. It has this hazy blue filter on it and shows a girl at some sort of fancy dance, waltzing from one partner to the next, faster and faster, while the narrator totally slut-shames the girl. Her final partner is then shown in closeup to be revealed as DEATH!! Wow, that doesn't sound familiar at all, but it does sound kind of awesome.

Count Zero, in my net searches for videos warning about unsafe sex, I did find one that had a "Grim Reaper" image in a listing of such videos. Could that possibly in the PSA that you remembered? However, I did not find any such videos with a young lady waltzing. I think that we'll probably eventually find it, although it is difficult to select the right words when doing net searches. A strange thing about the song, "Standing here wondering," is that while I can find an image from, or very similar to, the PSA I remember, on a supposedly vinyl album cover for that song, I cannot find on Wikapedia, or any other web page, a listing of videos that have used that song. That seems odd and strange to me. Well, let's all keeping searching for The Commercials we want to see which are Out There, but we just haven't found the key that could use a little turning (any of you other ZAQBers remember that song lyric?) to help us find exactly what we're looking for.

Is that Burgess Meredith narrating?? Choco, that voice does sound like Burgess meredith. My first memories of Mr. Meredith are the Printer's Devil episode of Twilight Zone, and of course as the Penguin in Batman, and, later as the boxing trainer in Rocky. And, recently, I've seen his portrayal as the uh, guardian? of poor Lenny in the 1939 Of Mice and Men. One film with Mr. Meredth I have not seen, is Such Good Friends, directed by Otto Preminger. Some film fans and critics have claimed that Mr. Meredith lowered and degraded and demeaned himself by doing a scene where he struggles with trying to wear a (women's?) corsett, and later, nude, with a rose covering up his private parts. And, I suppose this gets into the question of just when is an actor or actress lowering themselves or degrading themselves in doing such scenes in films? Supposedly Marilyn Monroe was the first major Hollywood actress to do a nude scene in Something's Got to Give, which was not released due to the death of Marilyn in 1962. Well, I've seen that four hour long Cleopatra with Liz Taylor so I think she might have been the "first" major actress to do nude scenes in that film. But, how about Jayne Mansfield in Promises Promises, also released in 1963 the year of the release of Cleaopatra. Which one was released first? All of these things are so arguable. Did Marilyn, and Jayne, and Liz and Burgess Meredith degrade and lower themselves by doing nude scenes in films? Am I getting off of the subject?

It depends on whether you think it's more important whether the individual her/himself feels degraded or whether the mob believes he/she has been degraded. It also depends a good deal on the context.

Oddly, the only ads of yore I can think of at the moment are all really obvious ones, so I'm not even going to bother.

It was me, not Count looking for the ad. And I bet I know which one you have seen listed online and stuff. It's not the one I'm thinking of but rather an Australian PSA that's actually pretty graphic in its own right:

Choco, sorry about getting you and Count Zero mixed up, but I'm a mixed up person, as you probably already know.
Yes, that is probably the Grim Reaper I was thinking about, although it was just a still image I saw, and not the actual entire video.

It depends on whether you think it's more important whether the individual her/himself feels degraded or whether the mob believes he/she has been degraded. It also depends a good deal on the context. Marxo, I did a bit more reading on Such Good Friends, and it was James Coco, not Burgess Meredith, (or, Cocco?) who was struggling with a corset. One reviewer said that he wondered what Otto Premenger could have done to get Burgess Meredith, to do a nude scene in Such Good Friends? Reminds me of one asking that question about Ken Russell getting Oliver Reed to do the nude wrestling scene with Alan Bates, in Women In Love, by sharing a bottle of vodka with Mr. Reed. Didn't mention if Mr. Bates needed any extra encouragement to do the scene. When Women In Love played in my community, there weren't continuous showings, but a matinee, and an evening showing. I think the film had a very long running time and an intermission. Looking at net listings for Women In Love, the nude wrestling scene is featured on the DVD or VHS cover, although when I watched the film on HBO, or did I rent it from a video club, I didn't find anything remarkable about the scene, which seemed rather brief, and not of much significance in the film as a whole.

I ate through so many boxes of that stuff, trying to collect the freakies figures (that they pushed after the magnets). Finding the Boss was akin to scoring that golden ticket in Willy Wonka or something. One-in-a-million.

Wrong thread for this, but since we're on the subject of PSA's: I can't find it on Yootoub, but there was one from about a decade ago that always pissed me off. It shows a lone woman after an apparently long late shift, having to park her car down this dangerous street filled with thugs and punks and other dangers. She gets inside, to the safety of her crummy little apartment, and immediately lights up a cigarette. I think there was a piece of cake sitting on the coffee table, too. And they chastise her for her poor health decisions with this whole "Take care of yourself!"-number. i just thought it felt so judgemental. She's got this shit life in a shit part of some shit city. Let her enjoy her fucking after-work ciggy and cake, assholes. Maybe that's all she's got to look forward to? Ever think about that?!?

I'm struggling to remember this totally psychedelic commercial, which made total sense when it came out because everything was psychedelic in those days, but now it would just be bizarre and meaningless. I remember there was a fairy with butterfly wings hovering above a psychedelic hot dog for just a eyeblink.
I wouldn't know how to search for it because I can't remember what it was advertising. A troll on my shoulder is saying it was 7Up, but that can't be right.

Here's another PSA, and I hope to find more of my favorites. OK, I found the granille iowa video. I was looking in my billy's al time favorites instead of all time great TV commercials.
