I saw an ad on the google search page, about some apparently new "social" web page, called "People" something, (sorry I didn't write it down, but their sales pitch starts off, "if you have ever googled soemone . . . " type in their name below.
I typed in Chung Louis, manager of the 55th Street Playhouse in 1970, and got many listings.
Sorry to say that ad has not come on again but if and when it does, I will write it down and save the URL.
I'd think the ad would be a sales pitch for a search engine that would have some fees they haven't yet told you about, and checking out all of those Chung Louis entries, and their dbas (I'm using that as a polite alternative to "aliases"), would take a lot of time, but for a film detective interested in Ed D Louie, the 55th Street Playhouse and HIM, it might be worth spending their time on such an endeavor.

(I'm using that as a polite alternative to "aliases") Is it impolite to use the word alias?

On another thread I asked Webmaster Deeky about starting an "under construction" thread on Wakefield Poole's Bible, and taking different posts from this thread about that film over some time, to complete the thread.
Well, last night, I read every one of the 22 pages of this thread, and can't find the material I remembered posting here about Wakefield Poole's Bible, so I'm going to do a search of this board for those items I remembered (or falsely rememberd?) posting here on ZAQB, and if that result doesn't get any results, I'll just start over from scratch.

Well, I did the search, and found the items I was looking for, so that will save me a lot of work that I won't now won't have to do.

Here is another link to a webpage called A Wasted Life, in the google search, the listing saying: "bryininberlin.blogspot.com/2014/04/rip-kate-o... While we must admit that the legendary lost gay porno film, Ed D. Louie's Him (1974), is Numero Uno on our list of films we would even buy Crisco and bend over for, in general we are not into religious movies, so though Kate O'Mara appears as the legendary Salome in this TV flick, we probably won't see it — or does she drop all veils when dancing?" bryininberlin.blogspot.com/2014/04/rip-kate-omara.htmlI did not find the part of the web page where the above quote originated, and did not find any references to HIM, but it might take a long time to find on a webpage as long and detailed as this one.

And, a link to a German language webpage, with a translation button, which goes into incredible detail about HIM and the 55th Street Playhouse building, going all the way back to maps showing the area the playhouse was located in, with the adjacent buildings identified. I carefully read through the entire web page, and it didn't really have anything new about Ed D Louie's HIM, but did have an extremely detailed history of the 55th Street playhouse, the webpage being devoted to New York City itself rather than a "film" webpage, but still very much of interest. That other web page, Wasted Lives, does seem to be mostly about films, and I will now check it further. nygeschichte.blogspot.com/

Actually quite interesting to see the history of the place. By the time I knew of its existence, it was all pr0n all the time. In one of the photos, you can see the school Marxo Grouch and I attended --less than a block down the street.

Thanks for pointing that out to us, Lemmie. I think that web page was 80-90% about the 55th Street Playhouse over many years and maybe 10% to 20% , at mostm about Ed D. Louie and his notorious blasphemous porno film, HIM.
The webmaster of that page certainly did his (or her?) homework on the 55th St. Playhouse!

As you say, Phil Hall seems like a good person to contact. I think I still have his email somewhere. I'll send him a message. Stay tuned. Who is Phil Hall?

Could be worse. You could be stuck with the fuckin' New York Post, which should be available at takethiswithyouwhenyouwalkyourdog.com.

That's a good 'un, Marxo. The 55th Street Playhouse was not advertising in the NY Daily news (unless they did only one ad a week, on Sunday, as was the case with the San Francisco movie ads in general, as well as the porno houses), as far as I know, in 1974-1976, although they did become a regular advertiser in the NYDaily News, probably in about 1977, along with other porno houses under the same management.
And, by that time, HIM could well have been taken out of release.
The problems involved with searching for movie ads pages are that the page numbers in the digital viewer are straight Zero thru the final page, wheras, the newspapers themselves are divided into sections, with those sections starting each with a page one thru the final page of the section.
So, with a newspaper like the NYTimes or the NY Daily news, I have to first go to the index page to find out what section of the newspaper the movie ads are in, then locate that section.
On Sundays, with the total page count running into the hundreds, just as with the SF newspaper, locating the movie section, is difficult, although with practice it gets easier.
But, as I've repeatedly stated, I am as Lazy as Beatle Bailey himself, and would prefer to Let Other People do the work that I just don't want to do.
And, it's hard to get any motivation to do the work necessary to solve the mystery of Ed D Louie and HIM, when I am not getting any money out of it.

And he is...?
I ask because I'm blowing off an appointment with a different Phil Hall tomorrow because of an unavoidable schedule conflict.

Deeky this link was posted to the thread before, but that was very early on, so putting it here will make it more readily available to those who want to search. Probably the best leads on publications covering HIM would be found in the "Links," which are at the top of that page of GEVI, in such small print one might even overlook the links button. Tim in Vermont's Male physique publications is a humongous list of scanned body building magazines, some very innocent, but also GLBT publications, and some hardcore stuff too. I went thru the listings, which took about a week's time, and could find no porno magazine promoting Ed D Louie's HIM, but some of the magazines quoted in the reviews in the NYT and Village Voice are listed, although I have not checked to see how many might contain the full reviews and/or articles on Mr. Louie's HIM. There was also no listing of the 55th St. Playhouse 8mm films catalog, but quite a few listings of "video" catalogs of porno, I suppose from the VHS era. I would think that one could find more coverage of Mr. Louie's HIM in Tim's listings, but they are pay for view, short term users charged $1 a day, but the prices obviously are lowered for long term viewers. Anyone wanting to pay for a short term subscription to view Tim's magazine scans should first go thru the index, which is available for free by clicking on that very inconspicuous three line listing in the list of GEVI links to other web pages.
