I saw not one, but two of these driving back today from my last appt.
1) There's a building on Pinckney Road that has one half occupied by a mom 'n' pop grocery store, and the other half by a hair salon. What struck me as odd today was noticing a display out in front of the parking lot: tombstones. Who's selling those?
2) After Pinckney Road turns into Michigan Ave., there's a florist on the right just past 31 Flavors. The odd thing here is what they put on their marquee. The "grave blankets and American flags" special has given way to "Choc strawbrys/chocolate ravioli." I can see adding a box of chocolate strawberries to the dozen roses you send someone, but ravioli?
And do they also come in Nutella?

Wait. You're in Michigan and there's a Michigan Ave? That's kind of weird in and of itself.

Weirder still, that same road -- much farther south, after several other name changes -- crosses a highway which is also known as Michigan Ave. that goes clear across the state. Michigan is stuffed with Michigan Avenues, Michigan Streets, Michigan Parkways and Michigan Boulevards, on which you can make Michigan turns if you desire.

Not the most creative founders up that way, were they? We have a Michigan Ave down here in P'cola. I think we have a Detroit, too. Not sure what the connection is.

Yeah, aside from a zillion streets called Pingree (after Hazen "Potato" Pingree), most of the roads around here are named after the lakes they lead to: Cranberry Lake Rd., Silver Lake Rd., Thompson Lake Rd., Triangle Lake Rd., etc. etc. And more than a few called Michigan Street.

Up here, we take pride in our state, mister. And even if we didn't, it makes perfect sense to call a street fastened down to the ground in Michigan, that leads you around, into or out of Michigan, "Michigan Street." What else would we want to call it? California Street? Calcutta Boulevard? Cincinnati Circle? It's not going any of those places!

I saw the photo below this morning and could not understand why they called him "the world's unluckiest man." Almost alone in Pompeii, this guy died instantly and he couldn't have felt a thing. He didn't suffocate a little at a time, in terror, like most other Pompeiians did, and he wasn't boiled to death by hot lava like the unlucky slobs down the road in Herculaneum. Why not call him "the only lucky man in Pompeii"?

It wasn't so much his death, as it was the fact that they found a winning lottery right beside him.

OK, after having my "Blue Bird" hibiscus bushes stolen out of the flowerbed, I ordered a new one. Yesterday I got a check in the mail from the Michigan Bulb Co. saying they are out of them so they're returning my $$. But today I got a big box from them marked LIVE PLANTS. WTF could be in there?
And while I'm at it, I've said this before and I'll probably say it again, but why in the blue funk is the Michigan Bulb Co. In Indiana? Before you ask, it's not in Michigan City, Indiana...

Someone came to your flowerbed and dug up your plants and ran off with them?

Maybe. I had just planted these 2 shrubs and the landscaping company came to put down new woodchips. And did they ever. There's literally like a 5" layer of them on everything. So I thought my "Blue Birds" were maybe just stepped on and covered up. I dug like a dog for half an hour and found no trace. There's only a small area I put them in and they appear to be clean gone.
Adding insult to injury, they carefully pruned the dead flowering shrub next to it that they were intended to replace.

The mystery deepens. I opened the box. The new "Blue Bird" Bush I ordered is in it. So what's the refund for?

Wasn't sure what thread to post this in, but this one's title seems like the best fit:
The cat happened to be in for the second time tonight, so just before I was planning to eat, I fed her some shredded turkey. She seemed to then head for the door and wait for me, so I walked over to open it for her to go out. My scrawny old lady cat then proceeded to lift the thick, woven carpet an alarming height off the floor before simply retracting her claws so that the rug then just fell from her like just another corpse for kitty. I'm not sure what this all meant, but I suspect that she was either: assuring me that she'll kill me in my sleep one night - or - that I am the greatest human she's ever met on the planet.

I'm guessing it was a "biscuit making" moment, which suggest she was VERY happy. :3
