I'll start:
Like most shrinks, I never really get through processing my own childhood traumas, and literally every day of my life since I first met him in 2nd grade, I think of one particular school bully named Rex. He's always with me, the way Dr. Lecter is always with Clarice Starling.
So my favorite dinosaur by far is the Ankylosaurus, and there are toy versions all over my house. You open the medicine cabinet and there's an Ankylosaurus looking out at you. I even bought myself a $5 copy of Jurassic Park III this week because although I don't like it, there are a couple of scenes in there with Ankylosaurs.
And I watched it over the weekend, pondered the greatness of this dinosaur, and I made a connection for the very first time: According to people who ought to know, this is the only dinosaur that was equipped to waste a T. rex.

Yeah! Ankylosaurus was like the honey badger of the Cretaceous. They didn't give a shit. A living tank. I wish I still had my plastic dinosaurs from when I was little. I had a couple of ankylosaurus, One was bright yellow, the other forest green. They were most noteworthy for being the only dinos that didn't constantly fall over.

Processing out is kind of an on-again, off-again thing. Every so often something will happen that triggers a string of really awful memories that I've otherwise moved on from. Right now, I think some of the current Trumpatrocities are really sneaking through my pre-conscious mind, and it's like pouring lemon juice on a paper cut. Unfortunately, sometimes you just don't get to thump the predator. Or even know what the fuck it was thinking. So it goes.

I think the fact that the Trumpocalypse is waking up childhood traumata not only proves everyone's point about the fact that a recess-yard bully has somehow made it into the Oval Office to rip all our scabs off, but it also goes to show that the crisis is not yet so severe that we can't pause for thought. So, you know, it's good AND bad.

I had a huge moment of insight just now. I'm sure you all know by now that I am into exotic plants, and day before yesterday I snagged a Venus flytrap at Meijer's. I broke a solemn vow I made to myself all way back in the 80s, that I would never deal in any fashion again with pet-store feeder crickets, when I went to Pet Supplies Plus and bought 5 of them. I got out the tweezers from my nail kit, caught them one at a time, persevered when 2 of them escaped and fed 3 to the plant. It was only just now when I was commiserating with a co-worker about our pain in the ass new computer system that the system is called CRCT. Pronounced CRICKET. And I am feeding CRICKETS to a carnivorous plant.

It occurred to me today that it's beautiful down here, but lethal to actually be outside in it. I did not even have the energy to mow my lawn this "weekend" (my days off). The only way I can think to approximate it would be to stare at a typical "Come to Sunny Florida!" postcard...while drowning in scalding hot water.

This is weird. I get my jollies watching YouTube "spoops" videos, lately. There's an entire internet-full of porn of every imaginable act in the universe, yet I'm finding the casual grace of athletic women in tight outfits insanely arousing.

I tried to figure out what a spoop was and had no real luck.

I think it's shorthand for "sports-bloopers". Although in the case of the vids I've been watching, it's long-legged, high-toned athletic babes warming-up for sprints, or doing long-jumps, playing volleyball, high-diving and so on at world-class athletic events.

"Chat Rooms". They've been around longer than I've been online. I've maybe spent all of an hour total time in chat-rooms in my entire internet history. Does anyone here enjoy them? I just will never understand them.

Back in the golden days of the BMMB, I would pop into the chat room from time to time. I enjoyed it, but never felt compelled to spend much time on it. As it did then, it would depend a lot on the people who were present.

I just will never understand them. Not chatrooms per se -- though I had (still have, though he's dormant) a char over at LambdaMOO. In general, my life in cyberspace tended to spill over into my life in meatspace in really weird (and occasionally flat out fucked up) ways. Got to meet Legba once, which puts me in proximity to a slice of cyber-history. Fun fact: she was also the model for one of Joss Whedon's villains on the Buffy the Vampire slayer TV series. Which I don't *quite* understand as well.

NOW THE SHOCKING TRUTH CAN BE TOLD!!!
Well, it was a chat room, but not as you or I know it. At any rate, I met Jeff online on a MST3K-based site. This was back when the old Sci-Fi Channel (back before Syfy was even an itch in its daddy's pants) was running MST3K. It was called Caption This!, and it was basically real-time screenshots of whatever the channel was playing, and you could live riff it, along with anybody else who happened to be riffing at the same time. So I guess it was kind of sort of a chat room, since after a while you got to recognize many of the other handles of regulars. The best nights were when somebody would throw out a particularly good joke, and it would develop into a kind of running theme over the course of however much time you spent playing at any one time. (After all, there's only so much you can say about static shots of Mission: Genesis, but get a conversation going about The Many Sneaky Faces of Scott Bakula or Udo Kier's curious love affair with the Mercury Cougar and you were set for the night.)

Sort of a litmus test for how weird things are around here at present: I hope to find the time today to look for Christmas wreaths to utilize in the creation of my eye-stalk monster yard decoration for Halloween.

I spent an embarrassing amount of time on the BMMB chatroom.
Also, uh, hi.
