I totally get why the name isn't the best idea. That said, the city of Vichy, France, has been associated with mineral baths, hot springs, etc., for about two millennia now. Wild guess, since I've never seen the stuff, but I'd bet on a French parent company and "all natural" ingredients. I suspect here in the States, some sliver of the population gets the fascist association and the rest are ignorant. In Europe it's likely many consumers think of the city first and kind of mumble mumble past Petain. That does make way more sense, and is probably exactly the case. Doesn't change that I want to pitch them a perfume fragrance called Collaboration. Let me tell you about a survey a co-worker told me about, designed by her friend testing knowledge about WW2 among college students. Most of them knew who Hitler was, and some knew about Churchill, but most DIDN'T KNOW WHICH SIDE THE USA FOUGHT ON or what the key issues were in the war, even if they knew what the Holocaust was. One respondent memorably said that Anne Frank was a little blind and deaf girl who overcame her problems. I'm just saying they might not recognize a reference to anything Vichy.
