Well,I hope you appreciated the way the bricks of the back door steps were worn down.
And, that anyone ringing the front door bell was not making a "legitimate" call at Sunset Lodge.
I do think that what you rightly describe as a "litle" local landmark might be over-rated and in the Coastal Observer article, the writer called Sunset a "piddly little" brothel.
Sunset Lodge coudl well be over rated, although if anyone still living would disagree with that, they are welcome to join ZAQB, and state their contrary opinions, if someone will vouch for them as being a responsible person to post on ZAQB.
With all of the indexing on Google, maybe someone will see this post, and get riled up that some people think Sunset Lodge has been over-rated, and we'll get a new member.

In the Forry Ackerman thread over on CHFB, people remember all kinds of things incorrectly about what was published in FM.

Have you chimed-in on that big Acker-debate over on CHFB yet? I think you said (months ago when we were discussing it) that you were mainly just lurking?

Dr. Bill, thatnks fo ryour opinions and quuestions. Fine with me if Miss Hazel and her house are not of much interest to you.
Sometimes my interests and those of other people overlap, as in a Venn or is it Vinn, or Vin, diagram, if you've studied I think it's geometry.
But, sometimes our interests are far apart, and that is well and good.
I just found it ironic that a front door caller was not making a "legitimate" call at the lodge, in a place where the whole business was not legitimate in the first place.
How could every gentleman who knew about Sunset Lodge be expected to know that he had to go to the back door to get a date with one of Hazel's girls?
I did read up more on Pauline's Memoirs of her Bawdy houses, and she had a milk can in front of the house to indicate when the house was open for business and if the can was not there, they were closed.
Nothing about having to go to the back door, tho.
The stories abouit the Madams are all pretty "samey." They gave a lot to charity, just like Al capone was retputed to have done.
On the fickle Finger of Fate, it is a test of my memory. Memory and how it can get mixed up has always fascinated me.

Dr. Bill, I continue to abstain from posting to the Crucifiction of Forry Thread. It is so partisan and divisive, that the slightest little thing that I, or anyone else posting to the thread might say, can and would be taken the wrong way, and would put me, and another poster, onto the "other side" of whoever didn't like what I said. In fact, by calling it the Crucifiction of Forry thread, which I would never do on CHFB, some would assume that I am a pro forry, forry can do no wrong partisan, which of course I am not. Forry had no business non consentually touching women who didn't want to be touched by him, and reporteddly those who considered it an assault upon their persons, reoprted forry to Law Enforcement, and Cease and Desist and Protection orders were issued. I have not seen any of those documents, and have other things to search for and read. I can't make a judgement on whether the women who reported Forry got Justice or not, altho some posters over on CHFB say Forry should have been sent to prison. Forry was never a hero, or a role model to me, or someone who I would put on a pedistal. His beliefs in science fiction, esperantism, atheism, and his puritanical dislike of tobacco, alchol and cursing did make him a person of interest, but in no way someone I would want to "emulate," if that is the right word. |

Choco, has your copy of Sunset Lodge arrived yet, and if so, did you find it of much, or even any interest.
I suppose any person living in a town that had such houses might consider "their own" house to be the "best," or "most famous," or some other superlative.
Of course, some people in those towns consider the houses an embarassmet, to be fogotten, rather than fondly remembered.

It's kind of hard for me to hold any kind of moral high ground over others. I'm a pretty despicable person. As far as people like Ackerman (sexist) or Lovecraft (racist), I'm able to forgive/overlook their faults in my admiration for what they achieved in the fantasy field. But I fully understand how the women that Forry groped or whatever would have a much stronger opinion in the matter.
