My Halloween enthusiasm won't be dampened by mere rain! If anything, it's absolutely perfect Addams Family-style weather down here.
Also, more of you know...

This year's yard haunt. It looks pretty cool at night with the various effects lights. I had much more grandiose plans for the house and yard, but the weather's been uncooperative through the entire month of October. From what the forecast is reading, this Halloween is officially rained out. Regardless, I put this stuff up in the yard as a sort of salute to all things scary and creepy, as I do every Halloween season these days.
Pretty damn cool. Flyboy is especially primo.

Flyguy got some nice comments on the Halloween board, too. Thanks! I had much bigger plans for him than what ended up happening. I was going to have a host of giant centipedes, spiders, cockroaches and flies all sort of pouring out from behind his chair and crawling up the walkway, walls and windows towards the front door. Time and weather were killers this year.
I salvaged what I could of my decorations last night, but the wind today is fierce and destroying everything. We're looking at an amazing 30+ degree drop in temps tonight. Carved five jack-o-lanterns last night. Here's my Kit Kat take.

With any luck they will extend sales of this item thru the entire pumpkin-pie season, including Fangsgiving and Squidmas.

This is a piece of Halloween music I was working on. I had hoped to make a video, but didn't get it done in time. Attachments:halloween.mp3 (1.4 MB)

How Cajun Joe's Saved Halloween:
A glance at the potluck sign-up made clear that nobody was bringing anything but sweets. I, the first person to sign up, made a double batch of my signature apple dressing, which isn't cupcake sweet but still on that end of the flavor spectrum. Only a few ppl had signed up at all for that matter. So on Devil's Night I went into Cajun Joe's Chicken and Fish -- the earliest I could get there was half an hour to closing -- and asked if they had 2 whole slabs of ribs left. Only 1 and a half, she said. We could make another whole slab but there will be a wait. They were like seconds to closing and I'm not doing that to anyone on Devil's Night when there are so many mailboxes to be filled with rotten eggs. I took what they had, ate half of the whole slab so I had 2 matching halves, then sallied forth to Halloween City and found a plastic skull with a LIFELIKE MOVING JAW and a perfectly-matching pair of skellington-hand tongs. Laid out the ribs on a nice platter, garnished with the skull, crossed the tongs over the meat in a funereal fashion and voila, Halloween protein.

But EVERY day is Deekyween...
Forgot to mention that Busch's also saved Halloween. They were the very last place left to look after nobody anywhere had a single pumpkin left. They had some fine specimens and two of them chose me to take them home.

Well, that went from a near wash-out to every bit as great as the last three years! Lots of compliments from both parents and kids. Had more friends and family in the place at one time than I ever have. Just an all-round fine Halloween and literally walked in the door from pulling my car back into the drive at the stroke of midnight.

Yours looks like the TV version before it's had a few.
Wasn't at the parade for as long as usual, but still enjoyed what I saw. The crowd may have been slightly thinner because people were afraid it was going to rain, which turned out to be ironic, because, while it rained earlier in the day - and later - the actual hours of the parade were some of the best weather we've had in a long time. The temperature was perfect, there was freshness in the air because of the earlier rain, and there was a (mostly) gentle breeze blowing.
I took a new camera downtown, but forgot to empty the chip I was using before I put it in and I ran out of room really soon after getting down there, so that's mildly unfortunate. Favorite costume was a woman dressed as a Maidenform bra ad.

Ha ha! Yeah, I have all the jack-o-lanterns sitting in the side yard at the moment. I wonder how he looks after a couple of days of sitting out. Might be just right!

Any of youse grow your own pumpkins? Nah, they don't do well down here. Too much humidity. You'd love the long-running thread about pumpkin growing over on that Halloween forum I visit.
