I'm the exact opposite. I almost never watch movies, but I wade through many multiple series at a time. A lot of my issues come from years where cable wasn't always readily available. I gotta say though - with the video-on-demand feature on this box-thing, I've been contemplating taking a stab at some I've heard of but never attempted. Game of Thrones? Breaking Bad? I could now if I wanted. Might try first seasons of either/both and see if they hook.

I did try the first episode of Penny Dreadful on a friend's recommendation and might take it up for at least the first season. Nice dark Victorian era feel to things, but a bit hokey/comicbookie, too. Which actually fits the series name quite well.

I think our tastes diverge somewhat in places, so your mileage may vary, but I'd be more than happy to suggest some of my own favorites.
For example, The Americans is among the best shows I've ever seen, great acting, great storytelling, plays like a series of great espionage novels, the whole package, but it's also really wrenching in many respects. I remember feeling more anxious watching episodes of that than I did the simultaneously airing episodes of The Walking Dead. Believe it or not, that's my idea of a good time; don't know if'n it's yours. I'm experiencing much the same thing with The Handmaid's Tale at the moment. That shit is scarier than most horror films I've seen.
Also currently getting something of that with The Leftovers, but in a different way, and I don't even want to try to articulate it until I've watched the entire series.

Our tastes do differ, but I do appreciate the input. I will check and see which of those you mentioned are available on the Superbox. I probably wouldn't have even given Penny Dreadful a look were it not for a friend's recommendation, and I'm thoroughly engrossed in it now (five episodes in).

Also, I know there's no way I haven't pushed this one before, but what the hell. Much as I enjoyed The Wire, David Simon and Co.'s follow-up Treme is even better to my mind. And yes, it's about people finding ways to survive after experiencing a terrible event, but it's really a celebration of how to do that through the embrace of culture. It's one of the single most beautifully hearted series ever created.

Paramount's Evil was given a solid recommendation by a meatspace pal yesterday, too.

The Kids in the Hall. The 2022 series was much better than expected.

The Kids in the Hall. The 2022 series was much better than expected. I rewatched the original series recently, and it was actually astounding to recollect, not only how good it was, but how thoroughly fucking progressive it was. Also watched video footage of them at the Rivoli Theatre in Toronto in their early days. Still haven't gotten around to the new one, but I'm glad to hear at least qualified good things about it.

Kim is fantastic in Treme. Lots of good acting in that. And music like you wouldn't believe. I fully plan on giving Evil a try at some point, both because Michael Emerson is in it and because it was created by the same people who created The Good Wife, which I am just about to finish up and which I have thoroughly enjoyed.

I gave Evil a shot, but didn't seem like my kind of affair. Granted, just the first episode, so I didn't give it much of a chance.
But I'm commenting in this thread today to speak of the sublime joy of watching the world's best athletes competing while devouring an eight piece box of fried chicken from Publix.

I guess this belongs here: Watched a really tight episode ("Afterward") of an old horror anthology show called Shades of Darkness.

Recently caught both the "punk rock menace" episodes of both CHiPs and Quincy M.E. Wow. Punk rock is really dangerous!

Recently caught both the "punk rock menace" episodes of both CHiPs and Quincy M.E. Wow. Punk rock is really dangerous! Ever seen the "punk rock" episode of WKRP in Cincinati? It's intentionally funny most of the episode, but when hear the band play we realize the producers have no idea what punk rock sounds like.
