Have you managed to find any ads for gay bars in your exploration of newspapers.com?

Have you managed to find any ads for gay bars in your exploration of newspapers.com? Deeky, did you notice any gay bar ads in the one column ads above the movie ads? I suppose you would want to see 2 or more columns and larger height ads. But I don't know if the editors of the LA times would confine ads for gay bars in the Adult entertainment section. In some of the Canadian newspapers I have surfed, I have seen what looked to me like ads for gay bars in places other than the movie pages, or even the entertainment sections, but I don't think I have seen that in the LA times. I will try to surf thru some issues to see if there are any gay bar ads outside of the adult entertainment section of the LA Times. Altho I suppose that you do like the movie ads, right?

Deeky, did you notice any gay bar ads in the one column ads above the movie ads? No, that's why I asked. Deeky, I gave those 2 LATimes pages a closer look, and it seems like the one col. ads above the movie ads were mostly for motels, some featuring X-Rated movies. Maybe there were ads for Gay bars in the LA area, in another part of that newspaper. I have developed my searching skills, although surfing thru a newspaper with sometimes over 200 + pages, can be a test of anyone's metal, regardless of their level of experience, plus if I did a search of that newspaper for "gay bars," it would probably result in zero results, because, even in the GLBT newspapers, such as the Bay Area Reporter, and the Washington Blade, I can't recall any "gay bars," being identified as such. If you could give me some specific names of which gay bars were in the LA area in the years I am surfing, so far thru 1977, I would be better eqiupped to know what to be on the lookout for when I do further surfing of that newspaper.

When I started surfing the newspaper archive, i didn't know how to do all kind of things, such as saving files, and doing searches, but my skills have improved enough to start this thread and continue it, so as I continue my Great Work, I'll hopefully find more of what you are looking for.

Deeky, Don't think I have forgotten about finding ads for the type of places you are looking for in LA. I plan to do some net searches, and make a list of the names of such places in LA in the 1970s, and you can tell me which names are familiar, and which of the unfamiliar names you might be interested in. Right now, I'm going to post my favorite SF delight, from the Bay Area Reporter. Not a whole page, so I think the file size is not big enough for pdfiles. We'll find out after I attach it. It's a photo of Dusty Rhoades(as the BAR caption writer spelled it), the butt obsessed pro wrestler who called himself "The American Dream," and was constantly telling his opponents, if they wanted a piece of his tail, he'd give it to them. Caption reads: " Dusty Rhoades - shades of Georgous George! - wrestles at the Cow Palace"From Bay Area Reporter, Nov 6, 1980, p. 37 Attachments:

Wait. This isn't the same Tyler from the shower, is it? No, Deeky, Tyler In The Showers are a Dime A Dozen. This Tyler is an artist named Tyler Alpern, His friend Brad had and might still have a large collection of GLBT publications going back many years, and which were for on sale on amazon, or one of those other online sales places. With Brad's permission, Tyler used Brad's summaries of his listings of the contents of the publications. That is where I found out about the ad placed by a Neo Nazi group in a GLBT magazine ca 1973 or so. Tyler's list (based on Brad's work, if I got the story right. Read his intro to see how accurate my memory is. I searched the list looking for reviews and ads for the Ed D Louie's HIM project, although one of the magazines listed, but not the specific issue cited by the GLBG film archive, which DoubleU listed on the Film Detectives thread, was listed, and I'm sure some of, or even a lot of, those publications which had film review columns could well have had reviews of HIM, but that particuiar title was just not listed in Brad's summaries. I think it's possible some of those bars you are interested in could have advertised in the LA times, but as I've said before, just what part of that newspaper they would be in would be a challenge, and the ads might be less obvious as GLBT bars, as in the kind of publications that Brad found, and might still have and sell, and that Tyler used Brad's summaries for his listings. Tyler's listings go by decade, and locations, such as region, and specific states and areas, such as Florida, or in California, Southern or Northern California. The whole listing is so vast, it's hard to remember all it has.

I don't know what's wrong with Billy A Anderson, because earlier in the day he wroe a reply to this one, but he must have pressed the wrong button, because that reply is not on the thread.
I thought Zoomerang could be a pun on boomerang, but what that guy in the film's ad is holding doesn't look anything like a boomerang, whch I would think a zoomerang would resemble in some way. The only thing I can think of it looks like is a tennis racket.
It's just such a great name for whatever it is. "Zoomerang" It could be a kid's show. Or even the name of some awful prog-rock band or jazz quartet. Hell, it could be the name of a laundry soap.
Guess what? I found Zoomerang on DVD.
