This has been a bad week for chocolate. Yesterday someone gave me a taste of chocolate toothpaste and it was, well, distinctly weird. Today I went to the community candy bowl for one of those chocolate-covered mint patties and it tasted weird and horrible. Horrible and weird. But at least I'm not the guy in this gif! |

We finally got my mom to eat something! I brought over one of those whole roast chickens and a big bag of peaches. My brother did all the side dishes and served it up. She actually ate a full meal for once. I'm not sure she's done it in the 10 years since my dad died.
What does Balinese food consist of, Greenie?

It's a subcategory of Indonesian cuisine. My brother and I went to a place in the Village because he just went to Indonesia last month and he wanted me to try it.
We had a sort of tender, slow cooked beef (which seemed odd for a recipe from a majority-Hindu country) and a tofu rice dish. There's lots of spice, lime, seasonings like kaffir leaves and lemongrass. Pickled sides. That sort of thing.

Color me vexed. I found a recipe on Pinterest for Apple Pie Bread and I made it, but it came out unbaked in the middle even AFTER it passed the toothpick test. The baked part did in fact taste just like apple pie. Now what did I do wrong!?
