I used the temperature in the recipe, for 5 minutes beyond the maximum time, and the loaf PASSED THE TOOTHPICK TEST. The only similar situation I've had was a loaf of banana bread that came out liquid in the middle (which lost me a baking contest at work). It turned out later that the oven was malfunctioning -- the little vent that let the gas in was clogged. I knew I was really in trouble when the oven started belching out flames when I opened it. But the oven I have now is electric, and everything else in it is baking just fine...

Ok, the cakes I baked yesterday came out fine, so It's not the oven. It was pretty close in spirit to the bread that went so wrong...applesauce cake best eaten with applesauce poured over the top, instead of the gloppy cream-cheese frosting described in the recipe.

I'll resume my duties as "Bringer of Pies" again this year. The family knows better than to rely on me to actually cook anything.

Any special recipe? My sister found one for the oven that leaves the bird tender and juicy. I love fried turkey, but it's costly as all git for the oil.

Nah. Just stuffed it with an onion, lemon, and an apple. Then slathered it in garlic herb butter.
It will be ready in a few minutes!

My sister and brother-in-law had two turkey's. One she cooked in the oven and one he cooked with a Cajun spice in a green egg. Both were great, but hers was probably the juicier and tenderer of the two. And overall atmosphere for the meal down here was pleasant. Had homemade macaroni and cheese instead of potatoes this year, which was fine by me. Nice chit-chat kept to idle pleasantries. Lots of good doggos around helped maximize the comfiness quotient. All-in-all, I can kind of understand everyone's adoration for Thanksgiving...but it ain't no Halloween.

Turkey chili here (T.'s recipe), cauliflour & cheese bake, sauteed rainbow chard. Pie with homemade whipped cream for dessert.

My mother, after my persistent grumbling, reluctantly decided not to make her green stuffing this year. The green hue comes from the excessive amounts of chopped pickle she puts in there. And raisins are also involved.

Nobody died of my cooking this year. Or they died so fast they didn't have time to call and heap excoriations on my head. Maple-glazed ham, blueberry pie, baked potatoes, gravy. I thought the baked potatoes were awful, but my sister loved them. (If you'd ever eaten her cooking that would explain everything. She has no sense of taste.) I threw the leftover ones out, they were so gross.
Has anyone tried this ambitious recipe?

Plate after plate of leftover ham with leftover gravy and cranberry sauce. I made a new batch of mashed taters, since the baked ones weren't edible.

I always resist fixing turkey at the holidays because I hate doing some kind of half-assed autopsy on a bird. But this year I stumbled across Jennie-O's pieces parts. You buy the breast, drumsticks, wings and thighs separately, frozen solid of course, for less than you'd pay for the entire bird. Now all I have to do is brown them and layer them with redskin potatoes in the slow cooker.
I'm attempting to ignore everything I've ever heard about how poultry is sold in pieces to disguise the fact that they cut off the sections covered with cysts and bright-orange tentacles caused by exposure to radiation and farm chemicals...
I wonder if it would work to make my Florida Orange cookies with cranberries added.

Arizona is too far from Hamtramck to get fresh pierogi. But thanks to our local Ukranian market, Christmas Eve is saved...

I saw that I was almost out of sugar so decided to make the cookies without experimenting. It dawned on me, though, how good they would be in thumbprint form, with maybe apricot preserves in the middle.

I bought way, way too much turkey. I'm going to be eating this until Doomsday.

My aunt is requesting that I let my cookies bake a little longer so they'll burn.
