I misread that as corn syrup. That sounds less than excellently filling. Guh. I made a Mystery Cake for my mom and after visiting for Mother's Day and going to a store, I spotred a sack of dried cherries in the prunes and apricots dept. Wondered how they would taste in that cake compared to the usual raisins. Would cherries be weird in a cake made with pumpkin-pie spice, cinnamon and tomato soup?

In an attempt to reduce my dairy intake (more for ecological reasons than health), I have tried almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk and oat milk. I like them all well enough. Interestingly, the one I liked least is the one I would have thought to have liked most, coconut. The stuff I bought, which was Trader Joe's unsweetened (I buy all of them unsweetened), had very little flavor and there was a very slight touch of bitterness to it. I'll try it again soon to see if I get the same thing. I think my favorite so far is the oat milk, because it had the richest flavor; also, naturally, it seems to be the most expensive.

Which is odd because oats are not my idea of a high-ticket ingredient. Try this on for size:

I finally went ahead and made that enchilada casserole I've had a recipe for forever. I'm glad I flew this one solo before inflicting it on someone else: it was really bland.

I tried Burger King's tacos today.
Yeah, don't do that.

What is HP sauce supposed to go on?

It's a savory brown sauce, so it goes well on meats.

Today I had a simple idea that worked really well. I matchsticked a whole smoked sausage and browned it in the big skillet with the lid. When that was done I added 2 cups of chicken broth and brought it to a boil. Dumped in a cup of white rice, covered it and simmered it for the requisite 17 minutes.
Delicious! But very salty; I've been guzzling water for hours.

Dinner here tonight. Frank's is a fantastic greasy-spoon breakfast shack. Evenings it becomes Francisco's, a Mexican joint that serves Michoacan regional cuisine. I am totally in love with all the different variants of Mexican/Mexican-American food, so this was a major treat. The breakfasts are "American" but they're pretty awesome, too... Most of the Mexican food around here is embarrassing, but I so love Mexican food, I'll settle for it anyway.

Why is it that potato chips seem to tase different when you eat them from a bowl rather than straight out of the bag?
Similarly, if I'm eating fried chicken, I have to eat the entire piece. If I put it down and resume after a side, it seems...different somehow.
