Aside from a scattered track here and there on the mix tapes I used to make (and that one video from the mix we made), I don't think I've inflicted much of my past musical output on you people, but I've been feeling increasingly certain about getting back into it lately, so I may be in the mood to inflict. One thing that is definitely going to happen is that Django and I are going to remix the old studio recordings of our band Nancy Sumatra, so I've been coming up with fun little ideas for shit I can add to it. Sound bites are always fun, so that'll be some of it. I have linked to two examples of that (partially because that's all I know how to do on my own for now). The quality's decent, but it will be apparent in places why this all needs remixing.

Same band, Nancy Sumatra. A personal favorite from our repertoire. My brother co-wrote the lyrics. I'd always wanted to add some more stuff to the instrumental bridge halfway through, so I did, a mandolin line and some backing vocals. You can totally tell that it's the new material, because I do not currently know how to mix it such to make it blend in more with the existing music (that may have to wait until we actually get into the studio with the original tapes and can break it down).

I've been spending some of my free time making electronic music. It's been fun.

Anything that's ready to share with the class? My ability to create new music with instruments right now is a bit limited, not the least of which by my ever-underwhelming ability to play most instruments. Vocal god Mike Patton put out a solo album of tracks he recorded in hotel rooms while on the road with Faith No More. I'm going to try to come up with some stuff like that. So far, aside from a couple of quickies, this is the only full improv piece I've done. I'm probably going to add stuff to it, but the plain vocal track resulted in some interesting, essentially unintended effects all on its own. Con due

I've also been having further fun with the Nancy Sumatra material. This is another personal favorite, with a bunch of new ornamentation. The God Machine

Anything that's ready to share with the class? Not as of yet. (Though I have been sharing snippets occasionally on Instagram, if anyone follows me there.)

I think I once subjected Marxo Grouch to one of my Minutemen homages, recorded in glorious 4-track Tascam cassette. Not a hell of a lot else made it to tracks since, which is probably a gift to the world. (My brief career as a West Coast folk-rock human jukebox was never recorded, to the best of my knowledge. That is definitely a gift to *me*).

I've subjected you all to a couple of my attempts at music, and I promise not to do so again until I have something actually good.
I have been practicing with my Diddly bow (Guitar is so much easier when you lose 5 strings), and my Mountain Dulcimer (3 strings, but I only have to play 1. The other two just get strummed as drones)

As I recall, Django came up with the title to be snarky, and then we wrote a song to affix to it. Hollandaise in the Sun

Returning to 'Returning', I've added a number of new sound bites and two bits of backing vocal. I couldn't quite grasp what I wanted to do with the vocals. The first bit I am mostly satisfied with, and the second is...odd, but kind of trippy for it, so I may keep it that way. Returning (to a New Place)

Will definitely do something along those lines, pending approval from the other members (I see no reason why they would object). Django and I still hope to remix at some point, but I'm cool putting up these as is for now (the occasionally audio glitches don't tend to be terribly long or distracting, for my money).
