Not wild about the price tag, but electrical issues should be resolved now. I just want everything working proper.

At the corner of Ninth Avenue and 55th Street, someone wrote "Thank You Georgia!" in chalk on the sidewalk. Did they now? 'Someone' we know? My street art is confined to obscene Biblical tableaus. You ain't just whistlin'-- um, let me put that another way...

I was heading out to pick up lunch and heard the end of Biden's inaugural speech. It was great stuff, but I listened with my heart in my mouth expecting to hear the gunfire start any second.
But then he finished speaking, and I heard the radio announcer say something that made me dissolve in tears of joy. He used the phrase "former president Donald Trump."
I wonder what the drive-thru girl made of my bright red eyes and tear-soaked germ mask.

I was too busy at work to fully appreciate it, but now that I'm home relaxing, it's sinking in that we made it. Somehow, the nation made it through the last four years, democracy (if not dignity) intact. President Biden is going to have an uphill battle all four years, thanks to the lunatic (now mainstream) fringe. Just like with Obama, the cons are going to be hypocrites about any and everything this President tries to enact, regardless of whether the majority are in favor of it or not. I'm not a psychotic cultist, so I'm not going to go riding around in Biden gear, but I'm behind this new leadership 100%. Hell, I'm already thrilled with the slew of Executive Orders he signed as soon as he sat down.
And yes, much like the red and white stickers I've been slapping on poles, drive-thru's, and gas pumps for the past eighteen months - Fuck Trump

Esteemed confidants and co-conspirators of the Quilting Bee, I present...The Book Box! I think it already had it's first visitor(s) earlier today while I was gone. Hard to tell. I don't get home til after dark most evenings.
Yesterday I went for a walk and a couple blocks away I found one of these Tiny Libraries. They had a copy of G. Gordon Liddy's autobiography so I took it. A few blocks later I threw it in a garbage can.

Cool beans! I have to say, it's doing really well. The thing is currently packed with books people have brought by to share. Mostly children's books, which is odd, because I purposefully placed my box at a height more comfortable for adults to browse than kids. Just checked my bank account and my check to Edward R. Hamilton Booksellers just cleared, so I should be seeing a whole slew of fresh books to put in there. What I do that's different than many LFL stewards is constantly refresh the selections in there to avoid things going stale. Even without ordering from someplace like ERHBS, I will sometimes just pluck everything out and replace with different books. Keeps it interesting for browsers.

Nice!
My boys have both been vaccinated due to their jobs, but I have no idea when I'll be able to get a shot.

I get my second shot on the 15th. I hope it doesn't make me feel too crappo. I'll be at work. Kinda neat story there. I was in the break-room a few weeks ago, eating my lunch. One of the pharmacy ladies came in, and I asked her if she could add me to a list of employees willing to get the shots if people don't show up for their scheduled appointments. I then went to take a nap. A couple of minutes into that, she pops in and asks if I'm ready for the shot. BingBangBoom, I get my first shot!

Same here. I got my second dose (the Moderna vaccine, for whatever that's worth) the last Monday in February, and then all day Tuesday and half of Wednesday, I felt like I lost a fight.

Went for my first bicycle ride in forever. I need to do that a lot more often. Give the knees a workout without putting too much pressure on them, along with underutilized leg muscles from just pounding the concrete store floor all evening. Got the perfect oval-shaped neighborhoods for it, too. I'm not talking any kind of distance shit here. Just a quick little ride around the block. DAMN, I've let myself go, though. Creaky as heck.
Also, the ride reminded me of a favorite "Sniglet". Does anybody remember those popular books from the 70's/80's? They would make up new words for everyday things/events/etc. A "Rovalert" was that tendency for one dog to set off a whole orchestra of other dogs barking around a neighborhood. I'm paraphrasing here. They probably said it better than that. But you get my meaning. Well, tonight was a perfect example of the Rovalert in action. Once one dog saw/heard me go by, it set off dogs on high alert pretty much the entire trip.

I do indeed. For some reason the one that has stuck with me all these years is "garbpaction," the practice of stomping on the contents of a full garbage can in the hope of compressing it sufficiently to squeeze in one more piece of trash.

Yeah, the only one that stuck with me was the 'rovalert'. I don't think they ever reprinted those Sniglets books, did they? It's been like 40+ years? Would be so strange reading one of those again.

If I recall, Singlets started as a bit that Rich Hall used to do on episodes of the early HBO sketch show Not Necessarily the News, which was an Americanization of the English show Not the 9 O'Clock News (an early gig for Rowan Atkinson).

Nice get, Mayz! I can't remember if I ever watched any "NNTN", but I remember Rich Hall from something.* We had a couple of the books around the house for awhile.
Lotsa late night sketch comedy-type shows vying to be the next SNL back then. Anybody remember "Fridays"? "SCTV" of course. Later "MadTV". I didn't get to see too many of those, either. Seems like there were some others from back then I'm brainfarting on...
