Have a promising application worked out, but stumbling a bit with the syntax of a new coding language? ChatGPT will have a very useful (and educational) debugging conversation with you.
It's not intelligent, as such, but it sure is friendly

Deposited my tax refunds. I've owed for years and years. Finally, a refund again!

Amazing stroke of serendipity just now. Been raking leaves into numerous piles all spread out across the front yard. That took about three hours.* Anyway, after a short lunch break I was out there again, bagging the leaf piles up. Made it to about 16-18 bags before I just got too pooped (I've let myself go). Managed to get them down to the curb...within fifteen minutes the weekly debris truck pulled by and grabbed them all up! This is awesome, because I have at least that many bags to go tomorrow, and I'll need the room down by the curb.
On a bonus unhappy: Walmart has scented leaf bags. Why? I love the smell of leaves. I think everybody does?
Extra happy: There are more of those little black crickets (that grow into huge big daddy crickets) than I've seen in previous years.
Bonus unhappy: I managed to step right on about three of the above little guys despite going out of my way to accommodate them while I raked.
* I have a BIG front yard and I went at places I sometimes ignore.

Here's an adorable puppy picture because we probably don't show enough of these here.

Deposited my tax refunds. I've owed for years and years. Finally, a refund again! Did you know that if you're getting a refund, the IRS doesn't give a pip when you file your tax returns? It's only if you owe that it has to be in by April whenever (17th?). I never knew this. I never filed late because that was usually like a free paycheck, but I just found that out this year.

So, my neighbor will be taking on most of my projects here. That's a new fence (just on one side) in a couple of weeks. After that, a nice big storage shed to drop all the Halloween, Christmas, and yard tools and stuff and STILL have beaucoup room. Then, several relatively simple lighting fixture upgrades and a new ceiling fan, along with replacing the ancient outside lights.

Look, you're now ready for Halloween, St. Patrick's Day AND that next furries convention, to say nothing of the upcoming Pensacola Entomology Showroom modeling gig.

I just learned that the nazi-evicting punk rock dive bar in the internet-famous anecdote about the only way to keep the bastards from getting a foothold was Baltimore's own Sidebar Tavern, my band's home venue back when I still had a functioning band. I'm not really wired up for the kind of hometown pride that a lot of people seem to feel, but I'm goddamned suffused with it right now.

I hope I don't come across wrong talking all the time about this new retirement status. I'm absolutely not trying to lord the shit. It's more just observations of this new way of living.
Anyway, today's observation is: Since I'm confronted with other actual humans so rarely now in my day-to-day, it's easier to afford them common courtesies and kindnesses. When you're dealing with hordes of people on a daily basis, it can warp your perceptions, I think.

Apropos of a recent post concerning my irritating ex-
Me: "Here's a thing you thought you were asking for, but actually it removes all possible angles of input or control you could have on this topic. Also, no hard feelings but let's never communicate again, m'kay?"
Interesting party trick. I might start doing this more with other toxic people...

Well, new fence is already up and new lights/fans/swanky bath mirror are all up and running. Did NOT expect all that to be accomplished so fast. It's on to the outside shed!
The final tally is going to be quite a hit to the bank account , but it's nice getting these three big home wish lists accomplished so early into these post-work years. Nice also having a neighbor who takes pride in his work and is skilled in all things construction/house. All this should send my home's value even higher, so it's an investment.*
*If all that sounds like stream-of-consciousness rationalizing, it probably is to some extent.

I discovered that a new co-worker is as passionate about native plants as I am, but because she's been living with in-laws for several years she hasn't been able to garden at all. She now has her own place again and the yard is huge...and bare. Loading her up with divisions of my plants!!!!

I've been so busy weeding and hacking away at overgrowth, I fear I will miss optimal planting season again this year. Hopefully, some of my garden plants that have been choked with weeds will flourish once I clear the yard.

Just be careful that the weeds you're clearing aren't valuable natives! I have been warned away from Pussy Willow for years, for instance. People snarl about it, saying it's invasive and so forth. Well I discovered that the humble Salix discolor-- a local weed, to be sure, one I found in the swamp out back -- hosts at least 14 different butterflies and moths anyone would want to have on their property.

Maybe this says something negative about me as a reptile --I'm not sure.
Since gently informing ex-spouse that the time had come for her to go take a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut, inside my head it has been...quiet.
Peaceful, even. Like "can hear the distant burbling brook of my more pleasant memories" again. I can see clean to the back wall of my anxiety closet --no snorklewhacker.
Mrs. Caution, of course, is as lovely as ever. Nice person to share peaceful headspace with.

Tentative happy here. I called the mortgage company because I wasn't sure if my finance people had indeed paid off the house or not, since I am still receiving bills. Turns out that yes, I'm good to go there. They told me I'd probably want to contact my home owner's insurance, since I'd still be paying on that. Contacted the insurance, and it appears I'm paid up on THAT all the way until 2024! It's a tentative happy because I'm not 100% sure that this won't boomerang back at me. If the insurance IS paid through the rest of this year? Fuck yeah!
Also, I just got the swanky lawn chair that I ordered in, so I'm gonna go flirt with skin cancer in the back yard today.
