First beach visit (to just soak up some sun/hop in the water) in a couple of years. Was nice seeing all the usual life I used to see. All the talk of the Gulf waters practically boiling had me worried.

It appears that hurricane Idalia will skirt by us on the Panhandle. While I'm glad for that, we are in desperate need of some rain up here. It's been steamy all Summer, but almost no rain to speak of.

Finally got a little rain here and there over the last 24 hours. More importantly, for the first time since the Summer began, it's not sweltering hot. I'm sure it will be back, but it was nice doing a little bike run without having a sweat soaked shirt on arriving back home.

Just got my latest mortgage statement. Maybe 3 more payments and I'll owe only about $10,000. Jim dandy!

The question is: what did you call these things as a kid?

The question is: what did you call these things as a kid? We called them rollie pollies(sp?) when I was a little kid in Silver Springs, MD. I think they called them the same when I moved down here between 2nd and 3rd grades. I think some kids down here called them potato bugs. Isn't there a different bug that goes by that, though?

We called them roly polies, or pill bugs. This monster is a potato bug:

Finally seeing a slight dip in temps down here. Low 90's with mid-to-high 70's for lows. The "feels-like" still makes things a little more intense, but this is WAY preferable to the last dozen weeks.

We have bats! Around twilight, I've seen little flying somethings swooping and diving in the air, snatching up insects. I always assumed it was probably swallows (may be them too), but bicycling more around dusk, I can say they are for sure bats! :bat:

In January I set myself a goal to release 24 songs this year. Two songs a month for 12 months.
I've put out 18 so far, and have five others pretty much done.
I really don't know if I expected to actually pull this off, but I did. I'm pretty pleased about that.

I am happy that I'm closer to an every two months schedule for the zine now that I'm unemployed. It used to be closer to every four months. So nearly double the output there.

I have a hummingbird regular at my feeder! I only decided to finally hang the thing outside my kitchen window less than two weeks ago. I don't know how long the adorable little fellow will stick around, but I went ahead and purchased more nectar to refill it.

Congratulations are in order. Anything you can attribute for the creative spurt? Just the need to accomplish something, anything at this moment in my life. Setting a concrete goal gave me something to work toward.

Setting a concrete goal gave me something to work toward. Bravo! I've found that helps for me on a daily basis. If I wake up and have a list of possibles, it's much better than if I have nothing on the agenda. That said, I do like the odd day here and there where I don't HAVE to get on something.
Today's happy is: NEW BICYCLE! Quite a step up from the old one, too.

Today's happy is: NEW BICYCLE! Quite a step up from the old one, too. Nice! It was a joy to ride. I will be able to go twice as far with this thing. I was looking for another gearless beach cruiser/city bike, but didn't care for what they had in that category. So, this sweet 7-gear wonder with some stop-on-a-dime handbrakes is the new ride.

Congratulations are in order. Anything you can attribute for the creative spurt? Just the need to accomplish something, anything at this moment in my life. Setting a concrete goal gave me something to work toward. I hear that. I've tried to be diligent in working on the new EP at least a little bit every day, and it's going pretty well so far. That feeling of accomplishment is particularly important given that I'm barely working at all at the moment and may not be for some time.
