I hate to say it, but I had a Mandela moment when I heard that Dr. Ruth had passed. Yeah, I was very surprised to learn that she hadn't been dead for, like, fifteen years, although I don't have any specific false memory of her demise being announced previously.

She always seemed older than God.

Actual opening line of an actual ad that the actual Facebook algorithm just decided I actually needed to see:
"Woke razor companies love to take your money while trampling on your values."
WOKE... RAZOR... COMPANIES...

How TF do I manage to do things like this? I look for a book to put in a box. Can't find it. Give up. Walk away. Walk back in. Find the book IN the box. Pleased, I put another book in the box. Walk away. Come back. Neither book is now in the box. But finding another book I want in the box, place that in the box in its stead. Walk out. Walk back in. Both books are now in there somehow.
I mean.

Not the first time I've found a fish in the yard. Gives an idea of how close I live to the water that the hawks will sometimes carry their catches over to my pines to feast. In this particular instance, I'd say that somebody was interrupted mid-meal. It was totally gone this AM.

Here's one. Approximately since the water-main drama began I have been struggling with a kind of borderline vertigo, as if I were in a fight scene on the old BATMAN show with the floor tipping under me. I thought it was just because I didn't realize the stoop was tipping under me, but afterwards it kept on until I could barely stay upright in the shower. Anxiety? What was this?
Well, on Labor Day I was pulling weeds, tottering sideways because tipping floor shit, and when I dragged a large tuft of Carpenter's Square away from my wall next to the hostas, I found a big-ass new crack running up the foundation. "I better report this," I thought.
My vertigo vanished on the spot. It's gone. It's as if someone were trying to tell me something all this time and I finally got the message...

Meanwhile, I was sniffing around, wondering if I had a gas leak last night. Turned out it was just dog farts.

Over the past month, I've had a steady drip of likes for my most recent Instagram post, all from new accounts seemingly owned by women with OnlyFans pages. I'm thinking this must be some sort of fuckin' bot thing, because they're all brand new accounts and the same sample photos are on multiple pages, plus they don't seem to have cottoned to the fact that I'm not biting.

Some weeks the only followers I get at Threads are bornpots.

Their nearest living relative, the okapi, is considerably more plausible-looking, albeit still kind of weird:
