It doesn't even scream "useful." I mean, WTH. I dunno. I kind of wish I'd had them back in my working days. When a customer complained I could just shrug and point to my tentacle ears. But you're not asleep at that point! (I assume...)

Saw previews at the theater last night for upcoming horror/thriller movies including: "The Beast Within"; "Cuckoo"; "Speak No Evil"
None of the trailers really grabbed me, but that doesn't mean they might not be terrific watches. Just didn't look like my sort of fare from the short glimpses.

I definitely saw trailers for Cuckoo and Speak No Evil when at the theater the other day. Remember nothing about them. Whoops.

Yeah, that's never a good sign when your trailer is so forgettable or pretty much tells the whole damn story. Hollywood needs to return to the less-is-more approach with their trailers. I remember the first trailers for "Alien" were just that big green egg filling the screen with virtually no idea of what it even meant. Then the tagline: "In space, etc."

I enjoyed "The Adventures of Hajji Baba" (1954) last night. It's super-cheesy, dated, and un-P.C.*, but nonetheless entertaining.
Anyway, the featured review on the IMDb keeps referring to it as an example of Hollywood "exotica" and also mentions a Rock Hudson movie named "The Golden Blade". Thing is, I can't find hardly anything googling for Hollywood exotica movies to get an idea of what other sorts of films the reviewer is talking about. I'm guessing it's any fanciful period movie about the Middle and Far East from roughly the same era as musical artists like Les Baxter were big? Like, did they just make up the term to suit their review?
*But in other ways quite progressive.

Good on him...unless he means he'll never retire from smoking?

Well, he has quit and then backslid before, but something tells me this time is for real.
I'm still holding out hope (possibly the pie-in-the-sky variety) that we might get one more visit to Twin Peaks out of him. He's said he's amenable and there have been indications that something he's been working on may be related to it, but the last one took a few years to write and shoot, so who knows? That's a major commitment.

Did anyone know there are four sequels (and counting) to "Starship Troopers"?

Been having a decent time viewing correspondent recommendations. Have caught two Alfred Hitchcock Presents episodes, an intriguing documentary by Orson Welles called "F for Fake" (1973) and an episode of the 1980's The Twilight Zone called Paladin of the Lost Hour with Danny Kaye and Glynn Turman. Lots of interesting notes around this episode. It was written by Harlan Ellison; the director (Gil Cates) disavowed it and used the "Alan Smithee" pseudonym; I didn't even recognize goddamn Danny Kaye (that's on me); and Glynn Turman (who plays opposite Kaye) was George Lucas' original pick to play Han Solo in "Star Wars".

Been catching a couple of episodes of a program called Cursed Films. It's got the ones you'd expect, like "Rosemary's Baby", "The Exorcist", "Poltergeist", etc. Anyway, I looked ahead to the second season and they have "Stalker", a Russian film I recently watched that went way over my head. I doubt it will help explain things any, but am looking forward to finding out why that one is considered "cursed".

That's on my to-watch list, I didn't know it was a Duncan Jones film though.

A big part of it is that it was filmed in a really contaminated area, post-Chernobyl, I think, and a lot of people who worked on it got sick as a result.

I viewed the episode, and they were indeed filming in an area with contaminated water. But Chernobyl happened after the film and some feel that the film predicted the disaster.
