Well, again the intersection of gallows humor and guillotine humor is a very congenial place, for a whole bunch of reasons. Even so, nobody deserves that kind of death. We start letting that idea go, and we're gonna start drifting into the billionaire mindset ourselves (Says a lizard who enjoys PLENTY of both gallows and guillotine humor otherwise.) That's pretty much the way I'm feeling, (and yeah my sense of humor can be pretty dark) I feel bad for the 19 year old kid, who was reportedly scared about the trip, but didn't want to let his dad down. The captain on the other hand is a perfect example of why Howard Roarke is a lousy role model. Exactly.

So, there's a newsgroup for gothic/industrial music that I sometimes visit. I find it odd that so much of what I hear of recentish* goth sounds pretty much the same as new wave did back in the 80's. What gives?

Is it one of those things like rockabilly, where the appeal is that it all kind of sounds familiar?

Is it one of those things like rockabilly, where the appeal is that it all kind of sounds familiar? I suppose. I just didn't previously equate new wave with goth, I guess. I mean, I get the progression. Maybe I expected more musical exploration after all these years.
When was that gothic music bubble, anyway? Late 90's/early2000's? I had a couple of compilations from one goth music outfit back then and most of the tunes were closer to attempts at Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, maybe even Leonard Cohen fare than the new wave sounds I hear from some of today's goth bands.

These days, if it's not hip-hop or cuntry it might as well not exist.

So, I'm running Bitdefender Antivirus and it's been really efficient and worth the yearly fee the seven or so years I've had this computer. I am just perplexed that their main office is in Romania. Not there, but I've read about how some former Eastern Bloc countries have whole towns devoted to hacking and other illegal/immoral digital shit. Maybe I've seen too many bad espionage movies, but it feels weird sending my money all the way over there for my personal computer's protection.

During the same day's news cycle there is a story about a town where people are upset about bunnies running wild and a story about another town where bears are coming into close contact and everybody's cool with it.

a town where people are upset about bunnies running wild I saw that! Better yet, they're lion-headed rabbits, descended from some jerk's abandoned pets-- the kind that look like they're wearing wigs! Hundreds of little Pam Grier and Fabio bunnies hopping all over the burbs, devouring people's lawns...

I almost posted to ask you what the hell I was supposed to be looking at there, but then I remembered which thread this was.

Huh. I was looking at a recent "best towns to retire to" lists and Pensacola was in third place this year for smaller cities. I've seen other lists where we are in the top ten among smaller cities for homicides, so I guess I wasn't expecting to also be a shining example of places to retire to.

A nice perk of being retired is being able to tune in to CSPAN for the Congressional hearings on UAP's earlier today. On the downside, I wasn't able to glean any vital information from the broadcast.

So weird. I was in the PECFAS website, which scores behaviors in kids aged 4-6, and it said one of my own kids -- a 10-year-old -- was more than 5 months overdue to be rated. I went into his last PECFAS rating and it said it was done a month before his 7th birthday, and when I looked at it it was correctly marked as the last such rating he would ever need. When I went back to the dashboard the glitch had vanished.

Why does YouTube think I want to watch Norm MacDonald clips? I can't think of anything in my actual YT choices that would give the algorithm any indication that I'd care to watch Norm clips. I really have nothing against him, I just can't comprehend how he always winds up as a top pick for me.

Stay for the homicides! I'm scratching my head about what I just found on the stairs. Somehow a brand-new bottle of store-brand Febreze was knocked over and hanging upside down from the top step. What I don't get is how the spray nozzle is somehow unscrewed so rhe liquid poured out. It's now almost totally empty. The other thing I don't get is how there's not enough liquid on the stairs. There should be a lot more poured out. Where tf did it go?

When I lived in ol' Kaintuck I once ordered just a plain cheese quesadilla (as opposed to one with chicken). "We don't have cheese quesadillas. But I can probably make one if you tell me what's in it."

I'm having these odd Mitch McConnell moments here lately where I'll confuse microwave lengths for some of my common items. Two frozen burritos? Usually 2:30 does the trick. Set it for 1:30 other night which is what I usually use to get water piping hot for a ramen cup. Then I was wondering if my microwave was breaking down.
(sigh) So this is what I have to look forward to.

Yesterday at 6:45 pm, on Thursday 9/28, when I was at Bob's retirement party over at Block Brewery, I received an email reminding me of "today's" EMDR consult at 2:15 pm Sat 9/28. Meaning that the reminder would have arrived hours after the consult. And here's the other thing: I happen to know that the consult is scheduled for TODAY, 9/29. At least that's what I signed up for. I'm so confused right now.
